Abstract

PURPOSE:To display characters in an easily visible state by displaying character signals superimposed upon video signals by moving the signals to the upper or lower no-picture section of an image receiver after the signals are separated from the video signals and interpolating the blank section from which the character signals are separated with data obtained by calculation on the basis of the upper and lower or left and right picture element data of the picture. CONSTITUTION:Character signals 32 composed of blank signals superimposed upon a prescribed extent of a picture 21 are discriminated and outputted as character signals 32 when the calculated ratio of the blank signals in the prescribed extent is higher than a prescribed value. At the time of outputting the signals 32, only the signals 32 composed of the blank signals are separated from a prescribed area of standard signals on the basis of the discriminated signal and the signals 32 and standard signals from which the signals 32 are separated are respectively outputted. Then the character signals are synthesized to a no-picture section produced at the top, etc., of the picture by the standard signals from which the character signals are separated after the signals 32 are delayed by desired time and, at the same time, the blank section produced by the separation of the blank signals from the standard signals is interpolated with an interpolating signal. Therefore, both the picture and characters become easily visible.

When a television broadcast is, for example, a foreign movie, the dialogue is displayed in subtitles, or a special news is reported in subtitles without interrupting the program, the television receiver (hereinafter referred to as the receiver) is used. In some cases, a character signal is superimposed on a part of the image, such as the bottom or top of the screen (abbreviated as ), and displayed on the screen of the television receiver. If the television broadcast is a high-definition broadcast and the receiving receiver is for receiving standard television signals (hereinafter referred to as standard signals), the high-definition signals are converted to standard signals by a high-definition signal/standard signal converter, etc. and input it to the receiver. In this case, the aspect ratio of the image by the high-definition signal is 4th
As shown in Figure (A), the aspect ratio of the screen of a standard signal receiver is 9 by 16, while the aspect ratio of the screen of a standard signal receiver is 12 by 16 (by the standard signal), as shown in Figure (B). Therefore, in order to display the full width of an image from a high-definition signal on both sides, for example, a blank area of 1.5/12 is provided at the top and bottom edges of the screen of the receiver. The upper and lower ends are not used. For this reason, if subtitles for dialogue or text such as breaking news can be separated from the image and displayed in the above-mentioned non-image area, it would be possible to make both the image and text easier to see, and the emergence of such a device is desired. was.

With the above configuration, the character information display device according to the present invention converts a high-definition signal into a standard signal with the two ends and the bottom end of the image as no images.
A character signal based on a margin signal superimposed on a predetermined range of an image is calculated by calculating the ratio of the margin signal in the predetermined range, and if the ratio is equal to or higher than a predetermined ratio value, it is determined that there is a character signal and a signal is output. Then, based on this discrimination signal, only the character signal consisting of the margin signal is separated from the predetermined range of the standard signal, and the separated character signal and the standard signal from which the character signal is separated are respectively output. Then, the separated character signal is delayed for a required period of time, and combined with the non-image area such as the upper part of the image formed by the separated standard signal of the character signal, and the blank area generated by the separation of the margin signal of the standard signal. is interpolated using the interpolation signal generated for interpolation of this part.

Embodiments Hereinafter, embodiments of a character information display device according to the present invention will be described in detail based on the drawings. FIG. 1 is a block diagram of essential parts of an embodiment of a character information display device according to the present invention. In the figure, reference numeral 1 denotes a high-definition signal/standard signal converter that converts the high-definition signal from terminal 2 so that the entire width of the image resulting from this high-definition signal can be displayed on the screen of the receiver for receiving the standard signal, and In order to maintain the fir side ratio, it is converted to a standard signal with no image at the top and bottom ends and output. 3 is a synchronization signal extraction section which extracts a synchronization signal from the standard signal from the high-definition signal/standard signal conversion section 1; Reference numeral 4 denotes a character information discrimination unit which calculates the ratio of the margin signal in the video signal within the set range of the video signal of the standard signal, and determines that a character signal is superimposed if the ratio is equal to or higher than a predetermined value. Output a signal. A frame memory 5 records the standard signal from the high-definition signal/standard signal converter 1 frame by frame. Reference numeral 6 denotes a character signal separation unit which separates a character signal from the standard signal read out from the frame memory 5 based on the signal from the character information discrimination unit 4, and outputs the separated character signal and the standard signal with the character signal portion blank, respectively. Output. Reference numeral 7 denotes a character signal delay unit which delays the character signal separated by the character signal separation unit 6 for a required time and outputs the delayed character signal. Reference numeral 8 denotes an interpolation signal generation section, which interpolates the blank portion of the standard signal resulting from the separation of the character signal by the character signal separation section 6, so that it generates image data, etc. before and after the portion corresponding to the character signal from the character signal separation section 6. Generate an interpolated signal based on. 9 is a signal synthesis section,
The standard signal from the character signal separation section 6, the delayed character signal from the character signal delay section 7, and the interpolation signal from the interpolation signal generation section 8 are combined and outputted from the output terminal 10. Reference numeral 11 denotes a reference signal generation section which generates a reference signal for synchronizing the signal processing operations of the character signal delay section 7, interpolation signal generation section 8, and signal synthesis section 9, using the signal from the synchronization signal extraction section 3 as a reference. Occur. 12 is a control unit that controls each part of the device. Next, the operation of the character information display device according to the present invention will be explained. FIG. 2 is a conceptual diagram of an example image for explaining this operation, and FIG. 3 is an example of the signal waveform. First, input terminal 2
high-definition signal (horizontal scanning line count: 1)
, 125) is converted into a standard signal (horizontal scanning line number: 525) by the high-definition signal/standard signal converter 1,
The signal is inputted to the synchronization signal extraction section 3, the character information discrimination section 4, and the frame memory 5. When a character signal is superimposed on the bottom of the image based on the converted standard signal, the waveform of this signal is, for example, as shown in FIG. 3(A). That is, one frame of image is formed by scanning 525 horizontal scanning lines, and a margin signal as a character signal 32 is superimposed on a video signal 31 near the end of this frame. This standard signal is input to the synchronization signal extracting section 3, and a synchronization signal is extracted from the standard signal. The character information discriminating section 4 detects the character information when a character signal is superimposed on a predetermined range of the input standard signal. Determine whether there is a
The frame memory 5 records the input standard signal frame by frame. In the image example shown in FIG. 2 (8) based on this standard signal, the portion of the dotted line frame at the bottom of the image 21 is set as the range 22 in which characters are displayed. Then, the control section 1
2, based on the synchronization signal extracted by the synchronization signal extraction section 3, the character information discrimination section 4 calculates the ratio of the blank signal in the video signal in the setting range 22, and determines whether or not character signals are superimposed. Discern. This determination may be made, for example, by dividing the setting range 22 horizontally into a plurality of sections (for example, 20
), calculate the ratio of the number of pixels of the margin signal to the total number of pixels for each division, and if there are multiple divisions (for example, 3 divisions) in which the calculated value is 5 percent (%) or more and 50% or less, It is determined that a character signal is superimposed. This criterion is based on the assumption that if the margin signal ratio is less than 5%, it is difficult to display most characters, and if it is more than 50%, it is an almost completely white image and is not a character. This is because it is determined that some kind of character display is made when there are three or more categories. Based on the signal from the character information discriminator 4, the character signal separator 6 selects the setting range 2 from the standard signal read out from the frame memory 5.
The margin signal within the set range 22 is separated and outputted to the character signal delay section 7 and the interpolation signal generation section 8, and the standard signal from which the margin signal has been separated from the setting range 22 is outputted to the signal synthesis section 9. On the other hand, the reference signal generation section 11 uses the synchronization signal extracted from the standard signal by the synchronization signal extraction section 3 as a reference. 9/12 of the image and scan 1.5/12 of the top and bottom of the image without a video signal.
The number of horizontal scanning lines in each of the 12 ranges is 525 x 1.5
Since it is sufficient to divide the number by 12-87 lines, the number of horizontal scanning lines of the E frame is 87 + 525 as shown in Figure 3 (B).
A reference signal of +87-699 (lines) is generated. Then, the character signal superimposed in the range 22 in FIG. 2(A) is moved to the non-image area 23 at the bottom of the image, and
In order to display text information 24 on the non-image portion 23 as shown in FIG. The separated standard signal 33 of the character signal from the separation unit 6 is scanned by 262.5 horizontal scanning lines in the range of the mouth, and the character signal 34 from the character signal delay unit 7 is scanned by the horizontal scanning lines 43 in the range of the mouth. The operations of each part are synchronized so that the range A is scanned with 4345 horizontal scanning lines without any image. Then, the interpolation signal generation section 8 generates an interpolation signal based on the reference signal from the reference signal ordering section 11 and the image data of, for example, the upper and lower or left and right pixels of the character signal from the character signal separation section 6. , and is output to the signal synthesis section 9 and synthesized for interpolation of the blank portion 25 by separating the character signal of the video signal 33. In addition, in "Bisho", we have explained the case where the M-folded range 22 of the character signal is at the bottom of the image, but for example, in the case of breaking news etc., it is often superimposed at the top of the image, so
It is also possible to set a plurality of assumed display ranges, such as the lower part or the upper part of the image, and to switch between these display areas by operating a switch or the like.

As explained above, according to the text information display device of the present invention, in a standard television signal converted from a high-definition signal, information in the text signal is superimposed on the video signal and sent out as part of the image. In this case, the character signal superimposed on the video signal is separated by the required operation and moved to the non-image area at the top or bottom of the receiver for display. Interpolation is performed using data obtained by calculations based on left and right pixel data. Therefore, by inputting the signal processed by this device to a receiver for receiving standard television signals, it is possible to display text such as breaking news or subtitles of foreign movies in an easy-to-read manner.
