Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the strength until bone substitution progresses to a certain degree, provide excellent neo-osteogenetic effect, and improve the strength by charging the pores of a ceramic porous body with a bone-substituting calcium phosphate compound.
CONSTITUTION: A living body material has a multiphase structure consisting of a porous body matrix having continuous pores made of calcium phosphate ceramics, zirconium ceramics or titanium and a bone-substituting calcium phosphate compound charged to the pores. In the case the matrix is formed of a non-bone substituting material, the strength is increased by the bone- substituting material charged to the pores. While, when the matrix is formed of a bone-substituting material and its substituting speed is slower than that of the bone-substituting material in the pores, the strength is increased by the bone-substituting material in the pores, so that the form is kept by the matrix at the time of bone substitution in the pores, and by a new bone at the time of the following bone substitution of the matrix. Even if the porosity of the porous body matrix is remarkably increased, a strength sufficient for practical use can be provided.
