Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a coating film having corrosion resistance to a molten metal by forming a self-fluxing alloy layer as an underlayer and a thin carbide layer on the underlayer by thermal spraying.
CONSTITUTION: A self-fluxing alloy is thermally sprayed on the surface of a base such as the shaft of a roll. After fusion, a thermally spraying material based on WC or other carbide is thermally sprayed to 5-100μm thickness. The service life of the resulting roll in a molten metal bath can be remarkably prolonged. Pore sealing treatment is carried out, as required.
