Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the breakdown of a drive circuit by forming a plurality of light-emitting segments in the connecting direction of elements and connecting these light-emitting segments to a drive circuit through each blowable wiring.
CONSTITUTION: A top electrode layer 15 consists of individual electrodes 17 which are integrally formed for each light-emitting element 11 through a thin blowable wiring 16 formed behind the element. In an edge light-emitting EL printer 9, the blowable wiring 16 of light-emitting segments 12 melts, of an overcurrent is generated due to the casual presence of pinholes in the thin film layers 3 to 5 of the light-emitting segments 12. This results in the disconnection of the light-emitting segments 12 from a drive circuit 18 and the subsequent prevention of breakdown occurring in the drive circuit 18 due to an overcurrent. In addition, the intensity of light integrated over time of the light-emitting elements including the light-emitting segments 12 is reduced 4/5, but the light emission of the elements 11 is ensured. Thus the black line or blank equal to a single pixel is not generated in the subscan direction of a printed image.
