Abstract

PURPOSE:To shorten the length of a rolling line and to reduce an equipment cost in the universal rolling of a track by moving an edge rolling mill having >=3 caliber orthogonally to a rolling progressing direction, aligning each caliber with the pass line of adjacent universal rolling mills and executing rolling. CONSTITUTION:The rolling layout of a rail is composed of a rough rolling mill BD having caliber in six kinds, an intermediate universal rolling mill U1, an edge rolling mill E having three kinds of caliber and equipped with a vertical roll and a finish rolling mill F. A rolling steel is then rolled in the rough shape of the rail by the BD rolling mill. The U1 rolling mill is then made an empty pass and it is rolled by the E rolling mill CAL6 caliber. Thereafter it is reciprocated between the U1 rolling mill and E rolling mill, rolled by the F rolling mill after its rolling of five passes and becomes a product.
