Abstract

PURPOSE:To stabilize the contact resistance of a patient electrode by inserting an electrode part of the patient electrode into the body of a patient and allowing it to adhere closely thereto. CONSTITUTION:A patient electrode 11 is provided with a metallic bar 12 which becomes the body, a balloon 13 consisting of conductive rubber attached to this metallic bar 12 so as to cover this metallic bar 12, and also, to come into contact electrically with this metallic bar 12, and an insulating part 14 consisting of an insulating material provided on the base end side of the metallic bar 12. The patient electrode 11 is inserted, for instance, into the rectum 25 without inflating the balloon 13. Thereafter, air is fed into the balloon 13 through a tube 18, feed air passage 17 and an air hole 16 from a compressor 20, and this balloon 13 is inflated. As a result, this balloon 13 adheres closely to the rectum 25.

[Prior Art] In recent years, it has become possible to perform treatments such as polypectomy, pavilotomy, hemostasis, and cauterization by endoscopically inserting various high-frequency treatment instruments into body cavities. Such high-frequency treatment uses a patient electrode attached to the patient and a treatment electrode inserted into a body cavity to perform the treatment, and the treatment is performed by a high-frequency current flowing between the two electrodes. The patient electrodes include disposable ones and reusable ones, but conventionally, most of them have been placed on the patient's buttocks, or worn on the patient's thighs or arms.

In this embodiment, since the patient electrode 11 is placed tightly inside the rectum 25, there is no accumulation of blood or disinfectant on the attachment part, there is no uneven current density, and the patient electrode 11 is not displaced. Contact resistance can be stabilized. Also,
The humidity at the attachment site is also more stable than the skin, so intraoperative electrode management can be reduced, and the same characteristics (contact resistance) can be obtained every time. Therefore, surgery can be performed safely and reliably, and burn injuries to patients can be prevented.
