Abstract

PURPOSE: To control a large number of display elements, that means, segments with the aid of a small number of control lines by combining plural time-sharing display type display matrixes and successively supplying a display signal to the respective display matrixes in time-sharing besides.
CONSTITUTION: A display device is divided into plural blocks and the scanning electrodes X1-X3 of the respective blocks on the columns which correspond each other are mutually connected. Besides, the part divided into the plural blocks is actuated in time-sharing by the signal electrodes Y1-Y3 of the respective display matrixes on the rows which correspond each other through selection means which are respectively energized when a matrix selection signal for selecting one among the respective matrixes is impressed. Therefore, the number of the control line between the display device and an external controller for supplying a signal which is necessary for the device, the package pin number of an LSI for controlling which is used by the controller and the number of the LSI for controlling which are used are reduced. Thus, the display of the matrix having a large number of segments is controlled by a small number of control lines.
