Abstract

PURPOSE:To surely identify the lighting state of a discharge lamp with a simple circuit structure by connecting an impedance element in series with the discharge lamp, and detecting the phase difference of the voltage applied to a filament and the synthetic impedance. CONSTITUTION:A lighting circuit 1 is a two-transistor serial inverter circuit lighting a discharge lamp 2 at a high frequency by repeatedly turning on or off two transistors Tr1 and Tr2 in turn connected to a DC power source E. A reactance element X1 is connected in parallel with non-power source side ends of filaments f1 and f2 of the discharge lamp 2, an impedance element Z1 is connected in series between the filament f2 and the output of the circuit 1, the phase difference of the voltage at both ends (a) and (b) of the filament f2 is detected by a detecting circuit 3, thus the lighting state of the discharge lamp 2 can be identified. When either one of emitters of filaments f1 and f2 is consumed at final stage of life of the discharge lamp 2, the Q output of an FF circuit 6 is made H.
