Abstract

PURPOSE:To save a toner required for copying and to attain easy to see character by generating a histogram representing the frequency relating to the density of a picture data, obtaining the maximum frequency of occurrence and the density when the frequency of occurrence is maximum and deciding the density region whose background is eliminated from the density. CONSTITUTION:When a command of background elimination is given from an operation section 3, a histogram generating means 4 generates a histogram representing the frequency of occurrence relating to the density of a picture data and a maximum value detection means 5 obtains a maximum frequency of occurrence and the density when the frequency of occurrence is maximum based on the data of the histogram. An elimination range decision means 6 decides the density region whose background is eliminated based on the maximum frequency of occurrence and the density when the frequency of occurrence is maximum obtained by the detection of the maximum value and a mask means 7 discriminates whether or not the picture element of the picture data is within the range of density whose background is to be eliminated and the background is eliminated when the element is within the range. Thus, a toner required for copying the part not requiring the color background of the original is saved and easy to see character is attained.

Means for Solving the Problems In order to solve the above problems, the background removal apparatus of the present invention includes a histogram generation means for generating a histogram of density values and frequencies of image data, and a maximum amount of frequency data generated by the histogram generation means. maximum value detection means for detecting a density value having a frequency and a maximum frequency; and removal range determining means for determining a density range of a base to be removed from the density value having a maximum frequency and a maximum frequency output from the maximum value detection means. The image data is compared with the maximum and minimum values of the density range output from the removal range determining means to determine whether or not they are within the density range, and based on this determination result, it is determined whether the image data or the background-removed data. In addition to the maximum frequency and the density value having the maximum frequency, the removal range determining means outputs the density region to be inspected by the operation unit and the frequency range to be removed using the maximum frequency. The configuration is such that the ratio for determining the threshold value can be specified.

According to the above-described structure, when an instruction to remove the background is given from the operation section, the histogram generating means generates a histogram representing the frequency of density of image data, and the maximum value detecting means generates the frequency based on the data of the histogram. Find the maximum value of and the concentration when the frequency is maximum. Based on the maximum value of the frequency obtained by maximum value detection and the density when the frequency is maximum, the removal range determining means determines the density area from which the background is to be removed, and the masking means determines the density area from which the pixels of the image data should be removed from the background. It is determined whether or not it is within the range, and if it is within the range, background removal is performed.

After reading out one pixel in step 3, the density of the read pixel is checked in step 204, and the frequency is incremented by one. ■, which is incremented by one in step 205, is compared with the total number of pixels of one color in step 206, and if ■ is smaller than the total number of pixels, the process loops and goes to step 203, where the next pixel is read out. ■ is smaller than the total number of pixels (

In step 601, a frequency threshold for determining whether or not to perform background removal is determined from the ratio value input from the operation unit 3. FIG. 7 shows the threshold value. Figure 7 is R
(Red), in the figure 701 is the maximum frequency, and the frequency 702 is the threshold. (At this time, the percentage of input from operation unit 3 is 50%.
It is. >> Next, in step 602, the value of the difference input from the operation unit 3 is subtracted from the density with the maximum frequency. To explain with reference to FIG. 7, 703 is the density value with the maximum frequency, 704 is the difference, and 706 is the density value obtained in step 602. In step 603, it is checked whether the obtained density value is smaller than O. If the density value is smaller than O, the density value is set to 0 in step 604. Steps 603 and 604 check whether the density value obtained in step 602 is within the density range of the histogram (equal to the actual density range), and if it is outside the range, the nearest value within the range is set as the density value. The procedure is to set it as .

In step 605, it is checked whether the frequency of the density value obtained in step 602 or step 604 is greater than or equal to the threshold frequency obtained in step 601 for determining whether or not to perform background removal. If not, 1 is added to the density value in step 606, and the process returns to step 605. If it is above the threshold value, the process goes to step 607 and the density value at that time is entered into Rmin. To explain using FIG. 7, the frequency of the density value 706 is smaller than the threshold value 702. Therefore, add 1 to the concentration (a706).

In the next step, the maximum density value for which the background should be removed is determined. In step 60B, the difference value input from the operation unit 3 is added to the density value having the maximum density. To explain with reference to FIG. 7, 703 is the density value with the maximum frequency, 705 is the difference, and 708 is the density value obtained in step 608. Next, in step 609, step 60
A comparison is made to see if the density value obtained in step 8 is greater than 255. (255 is the maximum value of the actual density) If the density value obtained in step 60B is greater than 255, the density value is set to 255. Otherwise, the next step 611 is executed with the density value unchanged. Step 6
09,610 also checks whether the density value obtained in step 608 is within the density range of the histogram (equal to the actual density range), and if it is outside the range, the nearest value within the range is set by 4 degrees. The procedure is to set it as a value. Steps 611, 612, and 613 are steps for determining the maximum density value for which background removal is to be performed. At stage 611, it is checked whether the frequency of the density value obtained at step 608 or step 610 is greater than or equal to the threshold frequency obtained at step 601 for determining whether or not to perform background removal. If not, the density value is set to 1 in step 612.
is subtracted, and the process returns to step 611. If it is above the threshold value, the process goes to step 613 and the density value at that time is Rmax
Put it in. To explain using FIG. 7, since the frequency of the density value 70B is greater than the threshold value 702, step 61
3, and the density value 708 is entered in Rmax.

By the above procedure, the maximum and minimum values of the density to be removed can be obtained. In other words, the density range shown at 709 is the density range in which the background should be removed. In this way, the background can be automatically removed simply by giving an instruction to remove the background from the operation unit, and there is no need to specify a color or area using a digitizer.

In addition, by giving the removal range determination means the density area to be inspected, which is a parameter for determining the base removal range from the operation panel, and the ratio that determines the frequency removal level to the maximum frequency, uneven backgrounds and gradations can be removed. It will also be possible to remove the coated base.
