Abstract

PURPOSE: To record data on both of a land and a groove and to prevent inconvenience from occurring in recording and reproducing by forming a spot whose diameter is smaller than the width of the land (the groove) and a spot whose diameter is larger than it in a concentric circular state with the aid of using incident light whose wavelength is different.
CONSTITUTION: The two incident light beams L1 and L2 having the different wavelengths n1 and n2 are formed through an identical optical system so as to make the diameter of the spot P1 corresponding to the incident light beam L1 of the short wavelength equal to or under the land 10r or the groove 10g and so as to make the diameter of the spot P2 corresponding to the incident light beam L2 of the long wavelength equal to or above the land 10r or the groove 10g on a disk surface 10. Then, the recording or reproducing on the land 10r or the groove 10g is executed based on the incident light beam L1 and a servo signal is obtained based on the incident light beam L2. By utilizing the spot P1 whose diameter is smaller than the width of the land 10r (or the groove 10g) formed by an incident optical system in such a way for the recording (or erasing), the data is recorded on both of the land 10r and the groove 10g.
