Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a high-strength carbonaceous material for sliding current collection having a low electrical resistance and resistance to brittle fracture by mixing raw coke with a specific amount of metal fiber, then forming the resultant mixture and burning the formed compact.
CONSTITUTION: With raw coke, is added and mixed 25-60vol.% metal fiber. The resultant mixture is then formed and burned to provide the objective carbon material. Pulverized raw coke itself containing a binder component is suitable as a carbonaceous raw material to be used. A large amount of the metal fiber can be added only by using the aforementioned raw material. For example, methods for heating pitch such as petroleum-based or coal-based pitch in an inert gas stream under ordinary pressure and regulating volatile contents or regulating the volatile contents according to vacuum distillation are cited as a method for producing the above-mentioned raw coke. If it is desired to further improve sliding characteristics, a carbonaceous raw material containing graphite powder dispersed in a carbonaceous matrix composed of the raw coke is effectively used.
