Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a distinct image to be recorded on a sheet by carrying even a sheet of different kind accurately by a method wherein sucking force for sheet is varied by operating a sucking force varying means. CONSTITUTION:A sucking valve 9 is connected to a sucking pipe 5d, and sucking force for sheet of a platen 5a is varied by operating this valve 9. The valve 9 is so constructed as to be opened or closed by a signal from a control part. When the valve 9 is in open state, the sucking pump 5d interconnects with the platen 5a, and sucking force for sheet according to drive of the pump acts on the platen 5a. When a recording sheet 1 to be carried is a film sheet, the sucking valve 9 is closed. After carrying the recoreding sheet 1 by one line, the sucking valve 9 is opened to perform recording on following lines. Further, when the sheet 1 is a plain paper, after carrying the sheet 1 to a recording position while it is being sucked to the platen 5a, drive of a carrier motor 4c is stopped, and a recording step on following lines is executed.

<Prior Art> A serial scan type recording apparatus that has been commonly used performs recording by moving a recording head in the width direction of a recording sheet. During this recording, in a recording apparatus such as an inkjet recording method in which the recording head is moved away from the recording sheet, the distance between the head and the recording sheet must be maintained accurately.

Therefore, conventionally, as shown in FIG. 9, a suction hole 52 is provided in a platen 51 disposed opposite to the recording head 50, and a suction pump 53 is connected to the platen 51, and a pair of conveying rollers 54 and a pair of hanging rollers are provided. The recording sheet 56 conveyed by the platen 55 is sucked onto the platen 51.

By configuring as described above, the recording sheet 56 is prevented from floating up from the platen 51, and the recording head 5
This can prevent the head 50 from catching the recording sheet 56 when the head 0 moves back and forth.

When suctioning the recording sheet 56 here, the suction pump 53
Even if they are driven in the same way, the suction force will differ depending on the surface smoothness of the recording sheet 56. That is, when the suction force of the suction pump 53 is set assuming plain paper as described above, there is no problem when transporting plain paper, but when transporting a sheet 56 with a high surface smoothness such as a film sheet, the problem may occur. The sheet 56 will be strongly attracted to the platen 51. The excessive adsorption force becomes a transport load, and even if the transport roller pair 54 and the discharge roller pair 55 rotate, the recording sheet 56 may slip and not be transported.

<Operation> In the above means, the suction force changing means is operated to change the sheet suction force of the suction means depending on the type of recording sheet. For example, in the case of a sheet with a high surface smoothness, the sheet suction force is set low, and conversely, in the case of a sheet with a low surface smoothness, the sheet suction force is set high. As a result, even if the types of recording sheets are different, accurate conveyance is always performed and recording is performed without image disturbance.

Examples of the ejection energy generation means include a method using a pressure energy generation means such as an electromechanical transducer such as a piezo element, a method in which N magnetic waves such as a laser are irradiated and absorbed by the ink liquid to generate heat, and the ink is heated by the action of the heat generation. There is a method using an electromagnetic energy generating means for ejecting the ink, or a method using a thermal energy generating means for ejecting the ink by heating the ink in an electrothermal transducer. Among the second methods, the method of ejecting ink using a thermal energy generating means such as an electrothermal converter is capable of high-resolution printing because liquid ejection ports can be arranged in a high density, and it is possible to perform high-resolution printing. This is suitable because it can also be made compact.

When one line recording is completed as described above, it is determined in step S7 whether or not there is a next line record, and if there is a record, the process advances to step S8, and if there is no record, the process advances to steps 317 to S19. Proceed to cut the recording sheet 1 with the cutter 7, and stop driving the pump motor 16.
Then, the recording sheet 1 is discharged from the discharge port 8 by driving the conveyance motor 4C by a predetermined amount.

On the other hand, in step S8, it is determined whether the recording sheet 1 being conveyed is a film sheet or plain paper, and if it is a film sheet, the process moves to step S9 and the suction valve 9 is closed. As a result, the suction force of the suction pump 5d no longer acts on the platen 5a. After the recording sheet 1 is conveyed by one line in steps SIO to S12, the process proceeds to step S13, where the suction valve 9 is opened, and the process returns to step S6, where the next line and subsequent lines are recorded.

For example, the rotation speed of the pump motor 16 can be switched by the old/L (IW signal) to the motor driver 19, and when the signal is "old", the rotation speed is high, and therefore the suction force of the suction pump 5c is strong, and the IILOW $ signal In this case, the rotation speed is slowed down and the suction force of the suction pump 5C is weakened. With this configuration, the suction valve 9 in the first embodiment becomes unnecessary.

Furthermore, in the first embodiment described above, the operation panel 15 is used to specify whether film sheets with different surface smoothness and plain paper are to be distinguished, but the type of recording sheet 1 is detected at a predetermined position on the sheet conveyance path. A sensor may be provided to control the drive of the suction valve 9 or the pump motor 16 based on a signal from the sensor. For example, plain paper and polyethylene terephthalate film have different optical reflectances, so a sensor can detect this difference in reflectance.
It is possible to detect the type of recording sheet 1 and automatically change the seal l-suction force by determining the type of recording sheet 1.

Furthermore, the recording means of the present invention need not be limited to the bubble jet recording method described above. For example, a so-called thermal transfer recording method, in which an ink sheet coated with heat-melting ink is heated in accordance with an image signal and the melted ink is transferred to the recording sheet;
Various recording methods can be employed, such as a so-called thermal recording method in which a recording sheet that develops color by heat is heated in accordance with an image signal, and a so-called wire tod recording method in which recording is performed by striking an ink ribbon with a wire in accordance with an image signal. I can do it.

<Effects of the Invention> As described above, the present invention can be used when transporting recording sheets that have a high surface smoothness and are easy to slip, such as film sheets, and when transporting recording sheets that have a low surface smoothness and are difficult to slip, such as plain paper. Since the sheet suction force is changed depending on the type of recording sheet when conveying the recording sheet, it is possible to prevent an overload from being applied to the sheet conveying means and also to reliably prevent sheet slipping. Therefore, it is possible to carry out accurate sheet conveyance and to perform recording without image disturbance.
