Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve reliability of spot welding strength by setting up an accelerometer using a light signal on an electrode holder part to perceive a vibration of an electrode holder.
CONSTITUTION: The accelerometer 1 using the light signal is set up on the electrode holder part 6 of a spot welding machine. The welding strength for plates 3 to be welded is then monitored indirectly by perceiving the vibration of the electrode holder 6. The light signal having light information on acceleration is transmitted to an optical accelerometer main body 8 through an optical fiber 2 by the accelerometer 1. The light signal on acceleration is changed into an electrical signal by a photoelectric converter and sent to an oscilloscope 9 on the optical accelerometer main body 8. The strength of acceleration is sent to a computer and acceleration generated at the time of each spot welding is monitored. Consequently, the welding strength of a weld zone can be controlled nondestructively.
