Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible high-speed recording of a high-quality image using a compact device by sequentially selecting electrothermal conversion elements at a specified interval of number out of a plurality of electrothermal conversion elements, and transferring a batch of recording data signals to a recording head prior to driving.
CONSTITUTION: The timing generation circuit 22 of a head drive circuit 20 generates a pulse width setting signal ENB, signals SEL 1 to m which select the position of a latch in a latch circuit 5 and select between electrothermal conversion elements 2 driven in each block, and a latch signal LAT 2. A recorded data division-generation circuit 24 extracts and recompiles recorded data corresponding to the elements 2 driven simultaneously from a single line of recorded data S11, and connects a signal S12 and a clock signal CLK 2 to a recording head drive IC 3. A single line of recording is performed by repeating the input of each signal by the number of elements constituting each block. Thus the problem of density irregularities generating in a recorded image can be solved.
