Conventionally, X-ray CT and ultrasonic imaging devices have been widely used as methods for non-destructively inspecting internal structures of human bodies and the like. In recent years, attempts to perform similar tests using nuclear magnetic resonance phenomena have been successful, and it has become clear that information that cannot be obtained with X-ray CT or ultrasound imaging devices can be obtained. Inspection equipment using nuclear magnetic resonance (hereinafter simply referred to as "inspection equipment") uses the nuclear magnetic resonance phenomenon to non-destructively determine the density distribution, relaxation time distribution, etc. of nuclear spin in a target object. This system constructs and outputs a cross-sectional image of a desired inspection area of a target object using a method similar to that of X-ray CT. In such an inspection apparatus, it is necessary to separate and identify signals from an object to be inspected in correspondence with each part of the object.
One of them is to apply a gradient magnetic field to the object to be inspected,
There is a method of obtaining positional information by varying the static magnetic field placed on each part of an object, thereby varying the resonance frequency of each part. FIG. 1 is a diagram for explaining the principle. When a gradient magnetic field G 1 is applied to the target object 1, a signal intensity distribution 2 is obtained as a function of the static magnetic field H, which is obtained by integrating signals from all nuclear spins on a line perpendicular to the gradient magnetic field G 1. In nuclear magnetic resonance, the following relationship holds true: =γH/(2π) (1) Therefore, the signal strength is also a function of the frequency of the high-frequency magnetic field. Note that in equation (1), γ is the nuclear gyromagnetic ratio, which is a value specific to nuclear spin. Next, by changing the direction of application of the gradient magnetic field and applying a gradient magnetic field G2 , signal intensity distribution 3 is obtained. By varying the applied direction of the gradient magnetic field and obtaining a similar signal intensity distribution, that is, projection data, it is possible to reconstruct the nuclear spin density distribution and relaxation time distribution of the target object 1 using an algorithm similar to that of X-ray CT. Can be configured. Incidentally, the target object 1 shown in FIG. 1 is a two-dimensional slice on the XZ plane, but when a human body is to be examined, it is first necessary to create such a slice. To do this, as shown in FIG. 2, while applying a gradient magnetic field Gy in the Y direction to the target object 4,
A high frequency magnetic field having only specific frequency components may be applied. As shown in equation (1), if the frequency of the high-frequency magnetic field is limited, for example, from s to e , the region where nuclear spins that resonate at that frequency exist is from H s = 2π s /γ to H e = 2π This is because the region has a static magnetic field strength of e /γ. By modulating the high-frequency magnetic field so that it has only specific frequency components in this way, it becomes possible to determine a specific slice. Application of such a high frequency magnetic field is described in, for example, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 158988/1983.

Figure 3a shows an example of the modulation waveform of the high frequency magnetic field H1 .
Figure b shows the frequency components included in the high-frequency magnetic field. In order for the frequency component to become a rectangular wave with a width of 2Δ, the high frequency magnetic field H 1 may be given by the following equation.

H 1 = H 10 sin(2π 0 t) sin(t・Δ)/(t・Δ) (2) Here, H 10 is the amplitude of the high frequency magnetic field H 1 at t=0, and 0 is approximately This is the resonant frequency corresponding to the center.

However, there is a big difference between these two stages. That is, the pulse of the high-frequency magnetic field used for slice selection may have a relatively wide width, whereas the pulse for acquiring projection data needs to have a narrow width. Now, assuming that the inclinations in the X, Y, and Z directions are all G, and the regions in which the object to be inspected are present are respectively ΔX, ΔY, and ΔZ, the frequency regions ΔX , ΔY , and ΔZ are given by the following equations.

ΔX=γ・ΔX・G/(2π) ΔY=γ・ΔY・G/(2π) (3) ΔZ=γ・ΔZ・G/(2π) ΔYはスライス厚であるから、ΔY≪ΔX,ΔZ

holds true, and therefore Δ Y ≪ Δ X , Δ Z hold true. That is, since the pulse that determines the slice has a narrow frequency band, a wide pulse is sufficient in the time domain. On the other hand, since the pulse for acquiring projection data has a frequency band that is two or more orders of magnitude larger than the band of the pulse that determines the slice, it becomes an extremely narrow pulse in the time domain.
These pulses are used to rotate the nuclear spin by π/2 or π. For example, to rotate the nuclear spin by π/2, the intensity is determined by the following equation.

H1=π/2・1/γτ (4) ここで、τはパルスを印加している時間であ

H 1 =π/2·1/γτ (4) Here, τ is the time during which the pulse is applied.

From equation (4), it can be seen that the pulse of the high-frequency magnetic field that determines the slice is weak, and the pulse for acquiring projection data must be strong. However, in conventional devices, these high-frequency magnetic fields were generated by the same amplifier, resulting in extremely low efficiency.

This is because in order to modulate the high-frequency magnetic field for determining slices as shown in Figure 3a, a low-efficiency class A or AB class amplifier is required. (in the time domain) pulse generation is also class A or
This is because class AB was used. Furthermore, since the rectangular pulse requires a large output as described above, the power required for the amplifier is determined by the power required to generate the rectangular pulse, and is therefore enormous.

In this embodiment, two types of amplifiers 9 and 10 with different bias operating points are used, and depending on the type of pulse,
Gates 7 and 8 are used to switch the amplifiers. The outputs of amplifiers 9 and 10 are sent to combiner 11

operates in class A or AB class, and is used to amplify high frequencies modulated by a sinc function or Gaussian modulated to obtain a slice, as shown in Figure 3a. A class or AB
In class operation, idling current flows even when there is no signal, so it is less efficient, but it has excellent linearity between input and output, and is suitable for amplifying complex waveforms with little distortion. On the other hand, the amplifier 10 operates in class C and is suitable for amplifying a waveform whose output modulation waveform is a binary function. This amplifier 10 is used to amplify the pulses necessary to obtain projection data. Class C operation is efficient because no idling current flows when there is no signal, but it is poor in linearity between input and output. As mentioned above, when cutting a slice, gate 7 is turned ON and amplifier 9 is operated (gate 8 is OFF), and when obtaining projection data, gate 8 is turned ON and amplifier 10 is operated (gate 8 is OFF). 7 is OFF).

If you try to amplify two types of pulses with one type of amplifier like in conventional equipment, for example, if you need an output of 3KW to obtain projection data, if you try to achieve that with class A amplification, you will need 30KW of power. However, if a class C amplifier is used as in the present invention, only about 3.5KW is needed, and the efficiency of the device is greatly improved. Of course, class A or class AB is used in the present invention to cut slices, but since the frequency band is more than 10 times wider, the power required for this is two orders of magnitude smaller than the power required to obtain projection data. . Therefore, it is only necessary to be able to supply several hundred W of power, and the total power required for both is about 4KW, which is about an order of magnitude smaller than conventional devices. Note that the present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiments, but can be applied to all cases where a high-frequency magnetic field is modulated in a complex manner and modulated in a rectangular waveform (in the time domain).
Further, the coil 12 is not limited to a single coil, but a cross coil can also be used. In this case, it is also possible to configure so that the output of each amplifier excites two sets of coils orthogonal to each other without using the combiner 11.
