Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the fall of a molten iron temp. and to allow gravity slag off by using a desulfurizing agent formed by adding a specific ratio of C to a ternary system of CaO-SiO2-Al2O3 and blowing oxygen in a downstream position.
CONSTITUTION: The desulfurizing agent formed by incorporating 5 to 20% C and inevitable impurities to 100% ternary compsn. consisting of 40 to 57% CaO, ≥30% SiO2 and 100-(CaO+SiO2)% Al2O3 is used in the hearth desulfurization of the molten iron. The gaseous oxygen is blown in the downstream position apart ≥1m from the position where the desulfurizing agent is charged to cause the secondary combustion of the C in desulfurization slag. The combustion heat sticks to the molten iron and the desulfurization slag to increase the molten iron temp. and to increase the temp. of the desulfurization slag as well, thereby improving the flowability of the desulfurization slag. A mixture composed of fly ashes and lime powder is usable as the desulfurizing agent.
