Abstract

PURPOSE: To attain the writing of the servo tracks of all data surfaces with the writing of one round of servo tracks by shifting the position of servo sectors for each of the data surfaces and executing the writing.
CONSTITUTION: A servo pattern generating circuit 6 outputs a servo pattern by receiving the timing for switching outputted from a timing generator 9. This pattern is amplified by a write amplifier 7 and is inputted to a switching circuit 8. The switching circuit 8 is switched in a head 3 for writing the servo pattern by receiving the timing for switching outputted form the timing generator 9. On the other hand, this head 3 is driven by the input of the servo pattern and writes the servo sector to the data surface by approaching the front surface/ rear of the magnetic disk 2. The writing is successively executed by shifting the time by utilizing the time after the certain servo sector is written before the adjacent sector is written in such a manner as to avoid the overlapping of the sectors on another data surface. The head is switched and the patterns of the sectors of the other data surface are successively written during the time of writing the adjacent patterns after the end of the writing of the servo patterns in such a manner.
