Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce failure in photography as to an automatic zooming mechanism by determining the focal length of a photographic lens automatically with a photographic magnification select signal from a remote device as to a subject and subject distance information and driving the photographic lens to the focal length.
CONSTITUTION: A focal length determining means 52 determines the focal length of the photographic lens 12 automatically with the specific signal from the remote operation means 56 which indicates the photographic magnification of the subject and the subject distance information from a range finding means 53. Then a lens driving means 51 drives the photographic lens 12 so as to obtain the focal length. Namely, desired photographic magnification is selected through remote operation and the magnification of automatic zooming is determined automatically according to the selected photographic magnification and subject distance information. Therefore, the photographic magnification of the subject can be set remotely without depending upon only the judgement of a camera main body. Consequently, the camera which reduces failure in photography by automatic zooming is obtained.
