Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve visibility and to prevent an image from being deteriorated by providing a light selection means for allowing only light which reaches an observer by 1st-order diffraction out of light made incident on a non-regular reflection type holographic optical element to selectively advance between a display medium and the non-regular reflection type holographic optical element.
CONSTITUTION: A blind 13 is disposed between a reflection type holographic optical element(HOE) 11 and a display device 12, and has a function for selectively transmitting only the light which reaches the observer by the 1st-order diffraction out of the light emitted from the display device 12 to respective directions. Therefore, the light(an alternate long and short dash line) which reaches the observer by regular reflection and the light(a broken line) which reaches the observer by high-order diffraction when the blind 13 does not exist are shielded by the blind 13, so that the light does not reach HOE 11. Thus, only the light which reaches the observer by the 1st-order diffraction is selectively projected to the HOE 11, and the observer 14 views only one display of the display device 12 in the visual field, thereby improving the visibility.
