Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound useful as an intermediate for drugs and agricultural chemicals readily and in high yield by catalytically hydrogenating a 2-cyanopyrazine in the presence of a hydrogenating catalyst and a solvent while feeding the 2-cyanopyrazine to the reaction system.
CONSTITUTION: A hydrogenating catalyst (e.g. Raney nickel) and a solvent (e.g. dioxane) are added to the a reaction system, a 2-cyanopyrazine is catalytically hydrogenated while feeding the 2-cyanopyrazine to the reaction system to give a 2-aminomethylpyrazine and/or a 2-aminomethylpiperazine. The reaction temperature is 100-142°C, when the 2-aminomethylpyrazine is produced and 148-200°C when 2-aminomethylpiperazine is produced and the reaction pressure is 5-50kg/cm2. In production of the 2-aminomethylpyrazine, addition of ammonia to the reaction system preferably suppress side reactions.
