Abstract

PURPOSE: To attain the temperature of an ink ribbon sufficiently high to provide the required corrective action by merely applying thereto the same energy as that during printing without raising the driving temperature of a thermal head itself by raising the initial temperature of the ink ribbon using a preheating element during the corrective action.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of printing, a printing energy is imparted to the heat generating part 5a of a thermal head 5 to melt and transfer the ink of an ink ribbon 6, whereby a desired printing is made on printing papers. A preheating element 8 is energized to preheat the ink ribbon 6 to maintain it at a high temperature. During corrective action, the initial temperature of the ink ribbon 6 is raised by the preheating element 8. Therefore, by merely applying the same energy as in the case of the printing, the temperature of the ink ribbon sufficiently high to provide the required corrective action and higher than that during printing can be attained without raising the driving temperature of the thermal head 5 itself.
