Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable circuit protection with a small-capacity smart power device(SPD) which diverts and detects a load current, by turning the SPD on after making a switch connected in parallel at the time of energizing the load, and breaking the switch after turning the SPD off at the time of denergizing the load.
CONSTITUTION: A load current to a load 6 is bypassed to an SPD 3. The SPD 3 outputs an abnormality signal to a control section 1 if the current value exceeds a specified value. The control section 1 receives this signal, drives a relay coil 5 through a transistor 7, and opens the relay contact 5a. At the time of a power source being applied to the load, the SPD 3 is turned on after closing the relay contact 5a. At the time of the power source to the load 6 being interrupted, the relay contact 5a is opened after turning the SPD 3 off. And while the SPD 3 is operating, a large current does not flow into the SPD 3 as the relay contact 5a is always closed.
