Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the generation of projections at the time of preservation at and under a high temp. and high humidity and to decrease signal drop-out by having a metallic thin film type magnetic layer and a protective thin film layer on a high-polymer substrate and incorporating Na or K to the boundary between the high-polymer substrate and the metallic thin film type magnetic layer.
CONSTITUTION: This recording medium is formed of the high-polymer substrate 5, the metallic thin film type magnetic layer 6, the boundary face 7 contg. the Na or K, and the protective thin film layer 8. The substrate 5 is formed by using polyethylene terephthalate having 10μm thickness. A soln. contg. 1,000ppm SiO2 particles and 0 to 1,000ppm NaOH is applied on the surface of the substrate to form the boundary face 7 contg. the Na or K. Further, the metallic thin film type magnetic layer 6 consisting of a Co-O system is formed to 160μm thickness by a vacuum vapor deposition method thereon and a protective thin film layer consisting of a carbon system is formed as the protective thin film layer 8 at 15μm thickness thereon by a CVD method. The boundary face 7 contg. the Na or K is interposed between the magnetic layer 6 and the protective film layer 8 in such a manner, by which the generation of the projections at the time of preservation at and under a high temp. and high humidity is prevented and the signal drop-outs are correspondingly drastically decreased.
