Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve recording and erasing characteristics by using a thermoplastic resin, an elastic modulus of which at room temperature and a glass transition temperature of which are specified, as a holding layer. CONSTITUTION:An optical recording medium is constituted by supporting and laminating an expansion layer A composed of a resin P1 displaying rubber elasticity at least room temperature and a dyestuff and a holding layer B consisting of a resin P2 and a dyestuff onto a substrate. A thermoplastic resin, an elastic modulus of which at room temperature is brought to 10kg/mm<2> or more and a glass transition temperature Tg of which is brought to 60-150 deg.C, is used as the resin P2 of the holding layer B. A bump is formed because such a resin P2 is expanded together with the resin P1 by thermal expansion on recording, the bump can be fixed in a cooling process, and the fixing of the bump can be released on erasing, thus efficiently conducting recording and the erasing of recording stably.

However, the recording principle of these recording media is that the dye absorbs light (often laser light) and the heat generated causes an irreversible change in the shape of the recording medium (in many cases, pit formation). Based on this, erasure of records was extremely difficult or impossible. That is, in the case of a dye-only medium, since recording is performed by forming pits accompanied by vaporization and scattering of the dye, it has been impossible to erase pits once formed.

In addition, in the case of a mixed system of a polymer and a dye, recording is performed by forming pits accompanied by flow deformation of the polymer, so it is difficult to efficiently erase the recorded pits once formed. In addition, another conventional technology (Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 60-698
46.63-136337, 63-136338 and 63-164042) In each case, an expansion layer that is heated and expanded by laser beam irradiation to form a dome-shaped protrusion (bump), and a retainer that maintains this shape. A recordable/erasable medium consisting of layers has been proposed. When recording on this medium, laser light is irradiated with the absorption wavelength λ1) of the dye mixed in the expansion layer in advance so that the expansion layer forms a bump and the retention layer maintains this shape. . In addition, when erasing the formed bumps, the absorption wavelength (λ2
), the holding layer is heated above its Tg to make it difficult to maintain the bump shape.

This dual-layer media consisting of dye/polymer provides efficient recording. In other words, in order to make the bump as high as possible, the Tg of the polymer of the retention layer should be made as high as possible. This is because the holding layer becomes a glass state when the degree of thermal expansion is high. On the other hand, in order to perform erasing efficiently, it is better for the retention layer to have a lower Tg. Furthermore, in order to obtain an erasable medium, it is not preferable that the holding layer undergo irreversible deformation due to laser beam irradiation, that is, flow deformation of the polymer. From this point of view, the resin for the retaining layer should have a flow temperature as high as possible,
It is also preferable that the melt viscosity is high.

From this point of view, the present inventors conducted extensive research and found that a thermoplastic resin having an elastic modulus of 10 Kg/mm2 or more at room temperature and a glass transition temperature of 60 to 150°C can be suitably used as the retaining layer in the present invention. I found out.

Among them, polycarbonate is particularly suitable for use in the present invention because it has a relatively high Tg and can be set to a desired value by suppressing the structure, and has a very high melt viscosity. Furthermore, an advantage of polycarbonate is that in its stress-strain curve, the change in stress relative to strain is extremely small after the yield point. In other words, when the force of pushing up the expansion layer due to thermal expansion during recording exceeds the stress at the yield point, the shape of the bump suddenly changes significantly. That is, the present inventors have discovered that it is possible to easily obtain large bumps, and have completed the present invention.

The dyes D1 and D2 play the role of efficiently absorbing laser light and converting it into heat during the recording and erasing processes, respectively. Therefore, a dye that matches the oscillation wavelength range of the recording laser and the erasing laser is desired. In order to selectively absorb both laser beams, it is preferable that the absorption intensities at each oscillation wavelength do not overlap excessively. Further, since the laser currently used in the optical recording field is a semiconductor laser, a dye having an absorption peak in the near infrared is preferred. Furthermore, since reading is performed using light reflection from the surface of the medium, the retention layer is required to have a high light reflectance. From this point of view, it is preferable that the dye D2 has high reflectance. Of course, for efficient absorption properties, the dyes should be selected to be uniformly dispersed in the respective resin. Suitable dyes D1 and D2 include cyanine dyes such as polymethylene dyes, biryllium dyes, thiapyrylium dyes, squarylium dyes, croconium dyes, and azulenium dyes; phthalocyanine dyes such as phthalocyanine and naphthalocyanine; dithiol metals. Complex; naphthoquinone,
Examples include anthraquinone dyes; triphenylmethane dyes; aminium and diimmonium dyes.

In the present invention, the resin (P2) used in the present invention is capable of forming bumps by expanding together with the resin (P2) due to thermal expansion during recording, and fixing the bumps during the cooling process, and fixing the bumps during erasing. It is responsible for releasing it. Therefore, in order to perform both functions efficiently, the temperature at which the glass state changes to the rubber state (glass transition temperature T
g) becomes important. In this sense, the resin P2 used in the present invention has an elastic modulus of 10 Kg/mm2 or more, preferably 20 Kg/mm2 or more, and a Tg of 60 to 1.
It is a thermoplastic resin at 50°C. Such a resin itself not only has a Tg suitable for the recording medium holding layer, but also can form a strong and uniform coating film.

The expansion layer requires heat or ultraviolet curing depending on the resin used. As a heat curing method, 50 to 200
It is completely cured at 70-150°C. If it is less than that, the thermosetting reaction will not proceed sufficiently, which is not preferable. Further, if it is more than that, it is not preferable because it causes deterioration of the substrate and the dye. The curing time is generally 5 minutes to 10 hours, preferably 10 minutes to 5 hours. On the other hand, in the case of the ultraviolet curing method, the coating is cured by irradiating ultraviolet rays after coating. As the irradiation source, a mercury lamp, a medium pressure mercury lamp, a high pressure mercury lamp, a metal halide lamp, etc. are suitably used. The power of the light source used is 1 mW/cot to 1 kW/a&. The irradiation time depends on the power of the light source and the photoreaction rate, but 1
It is carried out for a period of seconds to 1 hour, preferably 10 seconds to 10 minutes.

Recording, reproduction, and erasing of the thus obtained two-layer medium are performed by irradiating it with two types of laser beams. The laser used in this case may be a helium neon laser, an argon laser, a semiconductor laser, etc., but a small and inexpensive semiconductor laser is more preferable. Hereinafter, an example of a medium in which the expansion layer dye D1 exhibits absorption in the vicinity of 840 nm and the retention layer dye D2 exhibits absorption in the vicinity of 780 nm will be described. Recording is performed by irradiating a laser beam of 780 nm.

According to the present invention, excellent recording and erasing characteristics can be obtained in a recording medium whose basic principle is to read changes in reflectance due to the formation and disappearance of bumps. At the same time, because film formation can be performed at low temperatures and high speeds, coating and curing can be performed without deteriorating the substrate or the pigments used, and the media cost is also low, which is an industrial advantage. .

Example 1 Liquid chloroprene rubber having a hydroxyl group at the end of the molecular chain, number average molecular weight: 5.100. Product name PH-050 (Denki Kagaku Kogyo)] and polyisocyanate [Product name: Coronate L (Nippon Urethane Industries)] were mixed so that the ratio of hydroxyl groups/isocyanate groups was -0.5, and chloroform was mixed so that the ratio was -0.5. It was diluted 5 times with chloroform. In this solution, 10 parts by weight of soluble vanadyl phthalocyanine [trade name: IRD-1001 (Sansui Kagakusei)] was dissolved based on the solid content, and the resulting solution was applied onto a glass substrate, and then the solvent was removed. After that, the coating film was heat-treated at 120°C for 1 hour in a test machine to carry out a crosslinking reaction of the polymer.

Semiconductor laser light with an oscillation wavelength of 30 nm and a leading output of 10 mW is used as a pulse signal of LM)IZ at a linear velocity of 3 m/sec.
When the medium was irradiated at 1.c, clear bumps with a diameter of 1.5 μm were observed to be formed on the surface of the medium. When this recording section was read with a 780 nm, 1 mW semiconductor laser beam, 52 dBMC/N was obtained. Subsequently, on this recording spot, an oscillation wavelength of 780 nm and a leading cuff mW are applied.
When continuously irradiated with semiconductor laser light, the bumps mentioned above disappeared to such an extent that they could not be confirmed by microscopic observation. From this result, it was found that the above-mentioned recording medium can be used as a recordable/erasable optical information recording medium. Furthermore, even after repeating this recording/erasing test 104 times, sufficient bump formation ability remained.
