Abstract

PURPOSE:To delay the reduction of exfoliation of air current layer from the upper surface of a club head by forming a predetermined projecting or recessed portion over the whole upper surface approximately parallel to a top edge within a specified dimension from the top edge to the back side on the upper surface of the club head. CONSTITUTION:A wood golf club head 1 is formed on the arcuately formed upper surface 2a of a club head 2 with a projecting or recessed portion 6 within 20mm from a top edge 3a of a club face 3 to the back side 2b approximately parallel to the top edge 3a and over the whole length of the upper surface. Also, the height of the projecting portion 5 or the depth of the recessed portion 6 is preferably within the range of 0.5mm-2.0mm. Since the projecting portion 5 or recessed portion 6 is formed in the portion located from the top edge 3a to the back side, a small turbulence is produced on the upper surface 2a of the club head 2, so that the exfoliation of air current layer from the upper surface 2a of the club head 2 is delayed and a resistance force of air during the swing of the club can be reduced.

In general, wood golf clubs experience air resistance on the club head due to the swing when hitting the ball, which causes a decrease in head speed when hitting the ball and irregular vibrations of the shaft, resulting in a reduction in the flight distance of the ball and a loss of direction. is having a negative impact on

Incidentally, a conventional wood golf club 1 is shown in FIGS. 9 and 10, for example, in which the upper surface 2a of the club head 2 is formed in an arc shape, and the airflow Q from the face surface 3 side is As shown in FIG. 12, after hitting the face surface 3, it separates and wraps around toward the sole portion 4, which is formed approximately horizontally with the upper surface 2a of the club head 2.

To be more specific, the resistance can be divided into the air resistance of the airflow Q on the face surface 3 of the club head 1 and the resistance resulting from the turbulence of the airflow Qa generated around the club head 1. This air flow Q,
Among Qa, the former has a large air resistance, and it is difficult to avoid it because the ball hitting surface (face surface 3) tends to become larger.

FIG. 11 shows a central cross section of the club head 2 (X--X in FIG. 9).
This is a sectional view taken along the X arrow, and shows the ideal airflow during a swing. That is, the head upper surface 2 of the club head 2
The airflow Qa at point a is a laminar flow and there is no turbulence in the airflow, but in reality, as shown in FIG. Airflow Qa

This invention was devised in view of the above-mentioned conventional problems, and reduces the turbulence of airflow occurring on the upper surface of the club head, in other words, the layer separation phenomenon of the airflow on the upper surface of the club head, and reduces the drag force caused by the air. The object of the present invention is to provide a wood golf club head with a high quality wood golf club head.

[Means for Solving the Problems] In order to achieve the above-mentioned object, the present invention has a groove formed on the arcuate upper surface of the club head within 2 Oan from the top edge of the club face toward the hack side. The gist is that a convex portion of a predetermined height or a concave portion of a predetermined depth is formed substantially parallel and over the entire length of the upper surface.

The present invention is configured as described above, and by forming a convex portion or a concave portion on the upper surface of the club head near the face, along the top edge of the club face, approximately parallel to the top edge, and over approximately the entire length of the upper surface, Boundary control is performed by inducing minute vortex-like turbulence on the top surface of the club head, reducing air resistance and mitigating delamination, reducing the drop in head speed during swing, and extending the flight distance of the ball. Furthermore, it suppresses the vibration of the club head due to speed change and improves the directionality of the ball.

In this invention, as described above, at a predetermined position from the top edge 3a of the club face 3 toward the pack side 2b,
By forming the convex portion 5 or the concave portion 6 in a predetermined shape, a small turbulent flow is generated on the upper surface 2a of the club head 2, which delays the separation of the laminar airflow on the upper surface 2a of the club head 2, and improves the swing of the club. This can reduce the drag caused by the air inside.

As a result, as shown in FIG.
When the convex portion 5 is formed in the upper surface 2a of the club head 2, and when the concave portion 6 is formed as shown in FIG. This greatly reduces the occurrence of layer separation in the airflow to the rear of the head.

(Effects of the Invention) The present invention provides the above-described arcuate top surface of the club head with a groove that is approximately parallel to the top edge and within 20 mm from the top edge of the club face toward the pack side. Since a convex portion of a predetermined height or a concave portion of a predetermined depth is formed over the entire length of the upper surface, the turbulence of the airflow that occurs on the upper surface of the club head, in other words, the layer separation phenomenon of the air flow on the upper surface of the club head is reduced, and the drag caused by the air is reduced. This has the effect of reducing the drop in head speed during swing, extending the flight distance of the ball, and suppressing the vibrations caused by shifting of the shaft to improve the directionality of the pole.
