Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve light transmittance and obtain a resin, such as a polyester, suitable for optical recording media, etc., by irradiating a reaction mixture during polymerization and/or the resultant resin or molded products with rays of light at a specific wavelength in producing the resin from specific compounds as raw materials. CONSTITUTION:A compound expressed by the formula (R1 to R4 are H or <=8C alkyl) as part of raw materials are subjected to polycondensation reaction to produce a polyester, polycarbonate or polyester carbonate. In the process, a reaction mixture during polymerization and/or resin obtained after the polymerization or molded products using the resin are irradiated with rays of light at <=20, especially <=5 spectral output of components at a shorter wavelength than 350nm when the maximum spectral output within the wavelength range of 350-500nm is taken as 100.

In recent years, highly transparent resins with excellent properties have been required in various fields including optical and automotive applications. Among optical recording media such as optical disks and optical cards, write-once types and erasable types that allow users to record information have also appeared, and as recording methods develop, the level of requirements for the various properties of the base material has also increased. ing.

In particular, three important properties are low water absorption (low water warpage), low birefringence, and high heat resistance. Currently, glass and plastic materials are mainly used as substrate materials, but glass is difficult to mass produce, is expensive, and is heavy.
Plastic materials are more popular because they have the disadvantage of being easily broken. Furthermore, as the applications for optical lenses such as concave/convex lenses and Fresnel lenses and optical elements such as diffraction gratings expand, more emphasis is being placed on plastics than on glass for the same reasons as optical disks. .

Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is currently particularly used as a resin for transparent optical materials as described above.
) and bisphenol A polycarbonate (PC), but PMMA has an extremely low birefringence but a high water absorption (absorption m).
It has the disadvantage that it has high elasticity and tends to warp or deform due to water absorption, leading to a decrease in optical properties. In particular, when used in an optical recording medium consisting of a single substrate such as a digital audio disc, faithful reproduction of information may become impossible. In addition, further improvement in heat resistance is desired.

On the other hand, PC has low water absorption, hardly any water absorption warping, and has no problem with heat resistance, but it has the disadvantage of high birefringence. For relatively small-diameter items such as digital audio discs and small-diameter lenses, it is possible to suppress birefringence to below the required level by controlling molding conditions with high precision. This is extremely difficult for lenses of this type.

It has been pointed out that the main cause of the large birefringence of PC is the aromatic ring. Therefore, in order to obtain a resin with low birefringence, a material design policy that does not use aromatic rings can be considered, but not using aromatic rings causes the problem of reduced heat resistance.

If the light emitted has a strong emission at a wavelength shorter than 350 nm, the light in this wavelength range may be attenuated by an appropriate filter before use. A filter may also be used when the spectral intensity of wavelength components of 500 n@ or more is too strong and deforms the irradiated object. Preferred light sources include carbon arc lamps, sunshine carbon arc lamps, high pressure mercury lamps, ultra-high pressure mercury lamps,
Examples include cannon lamps and metal halide lamps. Among these, carbon arc lamps and sunshine carbon arc lamps are preferred because they do not require the use of filters and are easy to use.

When the resin obtained by the production method of the present invention is used, for example, as a substrate for a read-only optical recording medium, the substrate is obtained by injection molding or the like using a mold in which groups, signals, etc. are recorded as necessary. Then, a film of metal such as aluminum is formed on the information surface by a method such as vacuum deposition, and then a protective polymer eyebrow is formed or two sheets are bonded together. The information recording layer may be provided on a flat substrate using the resin of the present invention using a photocurable resin by the so-called 2P method. Further, the information recording section can be configured using any other method. For example, a thin film of an inorganic material such as tellurium oxide or a terbium-iron-cobalt alloy, or an organic material such as a cyanine dye is provided on the surface of a molded substrate.

This was fixed in a light resistance tester specified in JIS B 7751, and after irradiation with a carbon arc lamp having the spectral output shown in FIG. 1 for 2 hours, various physical properties were measured. The results are shown in Table 1.
