Abstract

PURPOSE:To isolate a magnetic head from the medium surface and to prevent the damage by a contact by laminating a soft magnetic layer and perpendicularly magnetized layer in this order form a magnetic head side, and magnetizing the perpendicularly magnetized layer by the leak magnetic field from the soft magnetic layer which is liable to be magnetized. CONSTITUTION:The coercive force of the perpendicularly magnetized layer 12 of the recording medium 1 decreases to allow magnetization inversion by an external magnetic field and the magnetization of the soft magnetic layer 13 decreases when the layer 12 and the layer 13 are heated to a spot shape by condensing laser light 3 thereto. On the other hand, a magnetic flux 6 leaks to the layer 12 when the layer 13 is subjected to the intra-surface magnetization by passing current to the coil 5 of the magnetic head to generate the magnetic field corresponding to information. The magnetization of the part where the coercive force of the layer 12 decreases by this leak magnetic field is executed, by which the information is recorded or erased. The external magnetic field to be impressed to the medium 1 is, therefore, necessitated merely to have the strength top allow the magnetization of the easily magnetizable layer 13. The magnetic head is isolated form the medium surface in this way and the damage of the medium by the contact is prevented.
