Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate excess thickness control and to highly stabilize the precision of a product by storing a plate type forging stock in a forging die provided with an excess thickness controlling part made up by a recessed part and forge- forming it.
CONSTITUTION: When an intermediate product for a connecting rod is formed, the plate type forging stock 3 is mounted on the forming surface 22a of a lower die 22 and an upper die 23 is installed from the upper part. Thereafter, pressure is applied by a press to the upper die 23 as shown by an arrow F to pressurize and deform the plate type forging stock 3 by each forming surface 22a, 23a of the lower die 22 and the upper die 23. The excess thickness controlling part 26 of the upper die 23 is charged fluidly with the excess thickness of the plate type forging stock 3 at the time of the pressure forming. By this method, the formed recessed part 25 is charged with the volume only except the excess of the plate type forging stock 3 and the vertical interval between the lower die 22 and the upper die 23 nearly agrees with the designed height dimension of the intermediate formed product 1 of the connecting rod to be manufactured.
