Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily form a heat exchanger into a polygonal shape by a method wherein a plurality of tubes form U-shaped fluid passages and a first group of the tubes is provided on one side of inlet and outlet headers while a second group of the tubes is provided on the other side of headers disposed on the central part of the heat exchanger. CONSTITUTION:The interior of a cylindrical header pipe 2 is axially divided by a partition wall into two space parts and constituted as an inlet header 3 to allow refrigerant to flow into one of the space parts and as an outlet header 4 to allow refrigerant whose heat-exchanging has been effected to be collected into the other of the space parts. Tubes 5 form U-shaped fluid passages communicating from the upper end of the header pipe 2 to the lower end thereof on one and the other sides of the header pipe 2. Accordingly, a heat exchanger may be easily formed into a polygonal shape depending upon variation in the length of the tubes without the need for machining the headers 3 and 4. Consequently, the front area of the heat exchanger can be made wider than that of a conventional apparatus by varying the front shape of the heat exchanger in accordance with a narrow mounting space.
