Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the stresses caused in the case of fire in the steel frame members of a steel bridge or the like, in the jointing parts of the steel frame members constituting the framework of a structure, by employing splice plates whose intermediate layer is made up of a thermoplastic material, so that the intermediate layer of splice plates can be melted in case of fire to intentionally reduce the sliding load in the jointing parts.
CONSTITUTION: A splice plate 4 is of three-layer construction consisting of both surface steel plates 4a, 4b and a layer of an intermediate thermoplastic material 4c, and the bolt holes 5, 5' on the sides of splice plates 4, 4' are made to be long holes extending in the biaxial directions of a beam. When the jointing parts are heated in case of fire in such a condition that they are joined by bolts, the intermediate layers of thermoplastic material 4c are melted, and relaxation is caused in the direction of plate thickness. Thereby the installation stresses of bolts are reduced, and the sliding yield strength is decreased. Thus, the bolts 6 move along the bolt holes 5, 5' of a long hole due to the linear expansion of a beam 2, and the increase of existing stresses can be restrained.
