Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform engine starting so accurately by dividing a field coil of a starter motor into plural numbers of sets, installing an on-off means in a circuit between a part of the sets and a power source, and controlling it for opening or closing according to engine temperature.
CONSTITUTION: A field coil 12 of a starter motor 11 generating a magnetic field in a way of making a current flow is divided into plural numbers of sets 12a, 12b, and a normally-opened relay 13 is installed interposingly between the sets 12b on one side and the motor (armature) 11. When a starter SW1 is turned on, a control unit 16 also comes into a state of being operated, and a main contact 10 of a magnetic switch 3 comes into an on-state, so that the motor 11 is started. In this state, if it is so judged that the control unit 16 is in low temperature and more than the specified rotation, or cooling water is high by each signal of a water temperature sensor 15 and speed sensor 14, the relay 13 is turned to OFF and motor rotational speed is made to go up. Thus, large torque is securable at time of high load and high rotational speed at time of low load, respectively, thus engine starting is accurately performable.
