The present invention relates to a method for producing 1,3-dioxolan-4-ylcarbinols. 1,3-dioxolan-4-ylcarbinols are compounds useful as intermediate raw materials for various fine chemicals such as medicines, agricultural chemicals, and surfactants. Also, for example, 1,3-dioxolane-4-
Ilcarbinol itself is known to be useful as a component of fire extinguishing agents (USSR patent no.
607582). Conventionally, 1,3-dioxolan-4-ylcarbinols are produced by reacting glycerin with aldehydes or ketones. However, in this method, the target object 1,
In addition to 3-dioxolan-4-ylcarbinols, a large amount of 1,3-dioxan-5-ols is produced as a by-product, and the production ratio is approximately 1:1 (for example, when glycerin and formaldehyde are mixed In the reaction, 1,3-dioxan-5-ol and 1,3

Chemie, 265 , 328-331 (1973)). Therefore, the yield of 1,3-dioxolan-4-ylcarbinol is low, the separation from 1,3-dioxan-5-ol is complicated, and the 1,3-dioxolan-4-ylcarbinol is complicated. The acquisition rate of nols is low, and 1,3-dioxolane-4-
This method was not satisfactory as an industrial method for producing ylcarbinols. In view of the current situation, the present inventor has made the following points:
- As a result of intensive research to establish an industrially advantageous method for producing dioxolan-4-ylcarbinols, we found that glycidols were reacted with aldehydes in an aqueous solvent in the presence of an acid catalyst. The present invention was completed based on the discovery that 1,3-dioxolan-4-ylcarbinols can be obtained with high selectivity and good yield. The present invention provides an industrially advantageous method for producing 1,3-dioxolan-4-ylcarbinols. The present invention is based on the formula (In the formula, R 1 and R 2 are a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group such as a methyl group, an ethyl group, a propyl group, a butyl group, and R 1 and R 2 may be different from each other or the same. ) is characterized by reacting glycidols with aldehydes in an aqueous solvent in the presence of an acid catalyst. (In the formula, R 1 and R 2 have the same meanings as R 1 and R 2 above, and R 3 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group.) related to the manufacturing method of the class. Glycidols represented by the formula [] used in the present invention include glycidol, 1-
Methylglycidol, 3-methylglycidol,
Examples include 1,3-dimethylglycidol, 1-ethylglycidol, 3-ethylglycidol, 1-n-propylglycidol, 3-n-propylglycidol, and 3-n-butylglycidol. These glycidols can be easily obtained by known methods such as treating the corresponding allyl alcohol with a peroxide such as alkyl hydroperoxide. Typical aldehydes used in the present invention include lower aliphatic aldehydes such as formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, and propionaldehyde. The amount of these aldehydes to be used is preferably 1 to 2 moles, usually 1.1 to 1.5 moles, per mole of glycidol. The method of the invention is carried out in the presence of an acid catalyst. Examples of acid catalysts used include mineral acids such as hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid, and carboxylic acids such as acetic acid. The amount of these acids used is 0.001 to 0.1 equivalent, usually 0.01 to 0.1 equivalent, per 1 mole of raw material glycidol.
0.05 equivalent is preferred. The method of the present invention is generally carried out in an aqueous solvent, but if the raw material is poorly soluble in water, a water-soluble organic solvent may be used as an auxiliary solvent if necessary. Typical auxiliary solvents include methanol,
Examples include lower alcohols such as ethanol. The amount of these solvents used is not particularly limited, but 50%
~500ml, usually 100-300ml is appropriate. The reaction temperature is selected from a temperature range of 20 to 100°C. The reaction time varies depending on reaction conditions such as reaction temperature, but is usually selected from a range of 0.5 to 20 hours. The method of the present invention can be carried out, for example, by the following method. The raw materials glycidols and aldehydes, water, and an auxiliary solvent are placed in a reactor, and an acid catalyst is added to this, and the reaction is allowed to proceed under predetermined conditions to produce the desired product, which is the formula []. The following 1,3-dioxolan-4-ylcarbinols are produced. Note that there are no particular restrictions on the order of addition of raw materials, solvents, acid catalysts, and the like. After the reaction is complete, the desired product can be extracted from the reaction solution, such as benzene, toluene,
It can be easily separated and obtained using known separation and purification methods such as extraction with an organic solvent such as xylene, followed by distillation and recrystallization. Representative products of 1,3-dioxolan-4-ylcarbinol represented by the formula [] include 1,3-dioxolan-4-ylcarbinol, (2-methyl-1, 3-dioxolan-4-yl)carbinol, (5-methyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-
yl)carbinol, methyl 1,3-dioxolan-4-ylcarbinol, methyl(2-methyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)carbinol, (2,5-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-) 4-yl)carbinol, methyl(5-methyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)carbinol, methyl(2,5-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)carbinol, (2- Ethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)carbinol, (5-ethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)
yl) carbinol, (2-n-propyl 1,3
-dioxolan-4-yl) carbinol, and the like. Next, examples will be shown. Examples 1 to 8 0.10 mol of raw glycidols as shown in Table 1, 10.5 g of a 37% by weight aqueous solution of formaldehyde
(equivalent to 0.13 mol of formaldehyde) or 19 g of a 30% by weight aqueous solution of acetaldehyde (equivalent to 0.13 mol of acetaldehyde), and 0.2N aqueous hydrochloric acid solution
10 ml of the mixture was charged into a reactor, and the reaction was carried out at 75°C for 5 hours. After the reaction was completed, the unreacted raw materials and target product were quantified by gas chromatography analysis of the reaction solution, and the reaction rate of glycidols and the selectivity of the target product were determined using the following formula. The results are shown in Table 1. Reaction rate of glycidols (%) = Amount of glycidols reacted (moles) / Amount of glycidols charged (moles)
×100 Selectivity of target product (%) = Amount of target product produced (mol) / Amount of reacted glycidol (mol) × 100
