Abstract

PURPOSE: To allow the bistable semiconductor laser to be set and reset with one light source by using the light of the wavelength at the intersected point of a solid line curve indicating the wavelength region which can be set and a dotted line curve indicating the wavelength region which can be reset.
CONSTITUTION: The light L1, L2,... of the wavelength at the boundary of the wavelength region which can be set and the wavelength region which can be reset are used as the light for setting/resetting the bistable semiconductor laser having a saturable absorption region. Solid line arrows are the resonance wavelength at the time of electroluminescence and the dotted line arrows are the resonance wavelength at the time of oscillation. The light L1, L2 to be used for setting and resetting are the light of the wavelength at the intersected point of such solid line curve and dotted line curve. The bistable semiconductor can be set/reset by the light of the one wavelength with the small light intensity in this way.
