Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a steel material having sound center part without any segregation and porosity with continuous casting by making difference in secondary cooling water quantities in center part and circumferential part on the same plane at long side in a cast slab and making displacement of the last solidified position. CONSTITUTION:In the continuous casting, the secondary cooling water quantities in the center part and the circumferential part on the same plane at the long side of the cast slab are made to differ and the initial solidified shell is formed so as to displace the last solidified position of the cast slab from the center at cross sectional face to both width direction. Ratio of the displacement R, while is shown with R=(r'/r)X100%, is made to >=30%. Wherein, r': length from the center at the cross sectional face of the cast slab to the last solidifying position, r=L/2, L: length of the long side in the cast slab. This steel material having making <=2.8 of alpha=L/W flatness ratio, is used as raw material for wire drawing and rolled. By this steel material, at the time of working of drawing the development of trouble of inner cavity defect (chevron crack), cupping wire cutting, etc., can be reduced.
