Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase an apparent transmittance and to enable the normal operation of the projector even if the quantity of incident light is increased by installing plural lenses which are approximately aligned in optical axis to respective liquid crystal apertures in front of the liquid crystal apertures. CONSTITUTION:The plural lenses 1 approximately aligned in the optical axis to the respective liquid crystal apertures are installed in front of the liquid crystal apertures. This liquid crystal light valve is irradiated by a light source and the image thereof is projected by a lens system 14, by which the projector is constituted. Even the light rays in the periphery of the liquid crystal aperture array are guided by the individual microlenses 1 to the respective liquid crystal apertures and are effectively utilized. The apparent transmittance is thereby increased and since the heat absorption in the periphery of the respective liquid crystal apertures is small, the temp. rise near the liquid crystal decreases and even if the quantity of the incident light is increased, the normal operation is enabled.
