Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove a coating with a simple constitution by supporting a moving body provided with a cutter by a supporting body so that the moving body can be freely moved back and forth in the direction orthogonal to the cutter and arranging a clamping mechanism adjacently to the cutter side of the moving body. CONSTITUTION:A coated optical fiber 67 is clamped by a clamping mechanism 60, and a moving body 32 is moved forth toward the clamping mechanism 60 by a driving mechanism 54, and the end part of the coated optical fiber 67 is interposed between cutters 44 and 45 of the moving body 32. Thereafter, this pair of cutters 44 and 45 are closed and their edges bite into the coating layer in the end part of the coated optical fiber 67. The moving body 32 is moved back by the driving mechanism 54 in this biting state, and cutters 44 and 45 are moved in the same direction, and thereby, the coating layer of the clamped coated optical fiber 67 is divided in this biting position by cutters 44 and 45, and the front end side of this divided coating layer is pulled out of the outside peripheral surface of the optical fiber. Thus, the coating removing function is fulfilled and the constitution is simplified.
