Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve strength level without deteriorating ductility by applying cold working to a Ti-V-Cr-Sn-Al beta Ti alloy and then subjecting the above to two-stage aging treatment under specific conditions.
CONSTITUTION: A beta Ti alloy which has a composition containing, as principal components, 14-16%, by weight, V, 2.5-3.5% Cr, 2.5-3.5% Sn, and 2.5-3.5% Al and having the balance Ti with inevitable impurities is cold-worked at ≥10% draft. Subsequently, the above alloy is subjected to first direct aging treatment consisting of heating to 500-<700°C and holding for 2min-1hr and successively to second aging treatment consisting of holding at 350-550°C for ≥2hr. By this method, a beta Ti alloy stock combining a strength of the level of about 130-170kgf/mm2 with a fracture elongation of ≥about 5% can be obtained.
