Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the title organic fiber outstanding in oxidation resistance and electrical conductivity, with a wide range of applications, by coating organic fiber of a specific fineness with a specified amount of silver through electroless plating process. CONSTITUTION:An organic fiber (e.g., natural fiber, synthetic fiber) with a single fiber fineness of 0.1-15de is, in advance, activated with a hydraulic acid solution of SnCl2 followed by dipping into an aqueous solution containing a reducing agent and then treatment with an aqueous solution containing a silver slat to coat said fiber with 5-40wt.% of silver. In comparison with conventional fibers coated with copper or nickel, the fiber thus obtained is excellent in oxidation resistance and electrical conductivity, thus can be widely used in electrically conductive coatings, electromagnetic wave shielding materials, etc. Said fineness of this fiber is optimum in view of the economical pickup of silver and fiber opening.
