Abstract

PURPOSE:To carry out appropriate hardening with no need for skill by inputting hardening conditions to an arithmetic unit, controlling the power of a laser oscillator based on the output, and controlling the movement of the laser-beam working head and a material to be worked in the hardening utilizing a laser beam. CONSTITUTION:A laser beam 11 from the laser oscillator 5 is focused by a lens 9, and projected on the material to be worked on a working table 10 to harden the material. In this case, the hardening depth, width, etc., of the material are determined by the arithmetic unit 2 from the quality, hardening hardness, hardening width, etc., of the material inputted to a data input device 1, and the required energy density of the laser beam is operated.
