Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure the thickness of a bottle accurately without contact and without destruction, by inserting a light projecting device through the opening of the bottle, and positioning a light receiving device at the outside of the bottle so as to face the light projecting device.
CONSTITUTION: A light projecting device 4 is inserted through an opening 2 of a bottle 1 and projects measuring light 3 comprising infrared rays of 2W5μm on the drum wall of the bottle 1. A light receiving device 4 is arranged at the outside of the bottle 1 so as to face the light projecting device 4 with a specified interval being provided from the light projecting part of the light projecting device 4. The measuring light 3 is attenuated during the transmission through the drum wall surface of the bottle 1 and reaches the light receiving device 5. The amount of the received light is transduced into an electric signal. At this time, the amount of the transduced electric signal is proportional to the amount of the transmitted measuring light 3. A specified expression based on the correlation between the signal B and the thickness is operated in an operator 6. Thus, a measured thickness value D is outputted. The output value is displayed on a display device 29, and the measured value is obtained. The thickness distribution of the bottle in the circumferential direction and the axial direction is displayed based on a rotation signal E of a turntable 9 and a measured position signal F in the axial direction from a potentiometer 32.
