Abstract

PURPOSE: To vary the focal lens of a focal length variable lens when the lens is utilized to a camera, spectacles or artificial eyeball and to eliminate the disadvantage of optical products to combine plural lenses by changing a DC impressed voltage to change the focal length of the above-mentioned lens and to change the curvature thereof.
CONSTITUTION: A transparent substrate 1 consists of a high-polymer material such as PMMA or PC or glass and is fixed to the side face of a body 10. A transparent piezo-electric polymer 3 consists of polyvinylidene fluoride or polyvinylidene cyanide and is similarly mounted to the other side face of the body 10. Liquid such as water or propylene glycol or liquid having relatively low dependency of a refractive index on temp. such as gelatin gel or water absorptive polymer absorbed with sufficient water is packed into an internal cell 2 to constitute the lens body. Deformation arises in the polymer 3 in accordance with the piezo-electric constant in the thickness direction thereof and the curvature of the polymer 3 changes when the DC voltage is impressed from a DC constant voltage power supply 11 via a variable resistor 12 to transparent electrodes 4, 5. The shape of the cell 2 is changed and the liquid packed therein is fluidized by this deformation, by which the cell is acted as the lens of the varying curvature.
