Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the focusing of an objective lens by providing an optical means possessing parts acting as varying field lenses, an image re-forming means and an photoelectric conversion means and permitting the prescribed one of image element columns to receive luminous fluxes from part of the optical means.
CONSTITUTION: A divided field lens 30 consisting of lenses 50aW50g is placed near the expected image forming surface of an objective lens, and said lenses act as field lenses differently. The image re-forming means composed of lenses 51 and 53 and a diaphragm 52 receives the flux, and creates a light quantity distribution indicating relative positions varying in response to the way the objective lens is focused. Said distribution is received by the image element columns 60 and 62 made of plural photoelectric conversion elements. The prescribed one of them receives a luminous flux from the prescribed partial lens of the field lens 50. Electrical signals are read out by image element column, various types of signal processing algorithms are selected to detect the focusing of the objective lens. Under this constitution, the detecting accuracy of a focus in a range-finding visual field can be kept high in the central part as well as outside; therefore a multipointed range can be found.
