Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate control over an electron emission characteristic by installing a monocrystal grain between electrodes. CONSTITUTION:Each of electrodes 5 and 6 with a minute interval is installed on an insulator of glass or the like or on a conductor substrate 1 provided with an insulating thin film 2 of Sio2 or the like on the surface, and a fine grain 4 consisting of monocrystal material is dispersedly set up between these electrodes, whereby an electron emission part is formed. Voltage is impressed in a space between these electrodes 5, 6 in a vacuum vessel and thereby an electric current flows these electrodes 5, 6, and when a drawer electrode is set to the + side and voltage is impressed on it, an electron is emitted almost vertically to an element constituent substrate 1. It is proper that a diameter of the fine grain 4 is number 10Angstrom -number mum, and a space between these electrodes 5 and 6 is number Angstrom -number mum. With this constitution, variations in a characteristic are lessened and, what is more, control over this characteristic is easy enough.
