When the gas barrier layer does not contain the inorganic compound, the barrier layer is less likely to be damaged during bending, and thus the water vapor barrier performance can be further improved.
It is preferable that the freeness of the pulp is 300 ml or more and 400 ml or less.
[Base paper]
The base paper is obtained by papermaking a slurry containing raw material pulp. The base paper may be either single-ply or multi-ply. In addition, as the base paper, from the viewpoint of dimensional stability, one-sided glossy paper may be used in which one side is glossy by performing a drying process using a Yankee dryer, and from the viewpoint of strength and printability, chemical pulp Fine paper, which consists of 100% and is uncoated paper, may also be used.
(raw material pulp)
The base paper is mainly composed of pulp. As the raw material pulp constituting the base paper, for example, virgin pulp, waste paper pulp, a combination of these pulps, and the like can be used.
Virgin pulp includes, for example, hardwood bleached kraft pulp (LBKP), softwood bleached kraft pulp (NBKP), hardwood semi-bleached kraft pulp (LSBKP), softwood semi-bleached kraft pulp (NSBKP), hardwood sulfite pulp, softwood sulfite pulp, etc. Chemical pulp; mechanical pulp (MP) such as stone ground pulp (SGP), pressure stone ground pulp (TGP), chemi ground pulp (CGP), ground wood pulp (GP), thermomechanical pulp (TMP), etc. Alternatively, mechanically produced pulp or the like can be used singly or in combination. It is preferable to use only bleached kraft pulp from the viewpoint of the appearance of the printed surface and use in food packaging applications.
Examples of waste paper pulp include defibered waste paper pulp produced from waste tea paper, waste kraft envelope paper, waste magazine paper, waste newspaper paper, waste flyer paper, waste office paper, waste corrugated board, white waste paper, Kent waste paper, imitation waste paper, and waste paper. , defiberized/deinked waste paper pulp (DIP), defibered/deinked/bleached waste paper pulp, etc. can be used singly or in combination.
The lower limit of the freeness of the pulp of the base paper is preferably 300 ml, more preferably 310 ml. The upper limit of the freeness of the pulp of the base paper is preferably 400 ml, more preferably 390 ml. Here, freeness is made into disaggregated pulp by disaggregating in accordance with the pulp disaggregation method of JIS-P8220-1-2012, and the disaggregated pulp is subjected to the Canadian standard freeness test method of JIS-P8121-2-2012. It is a value measured according to When the freeness is 300 ml or more, uneven formation during drying can be reduced, and occurrence of unevenness in barrier performance can be suppressed. When the freeness is 400 ml or less, the voids in the paper layer are reduced, and the penetration amount of the gas barrier layer coating liquid into the base paper can be suppressed. As a result, a uniform water vapor barrier layer is formed on the surface of the gas barrier layer. , the water vapor barrier performance can be further improved.
(Other additives)
Other additives can be incorporated into the base paper if necessary. Examples of additives include fillers, pigments, sizing agents, coagulants, oil resistance agents, fluorescent whitening agents, aluminum sulfate, retention improvers, drainage improvers, dry strength agents, wet strength agents, coloring agents, Dyes, color pigments, waterproofing agents, etc. can be used singly or in combination.
(Basis weight of base paper)
Basis weight (g/m 2 ) is measured according to JIS-P-8124:2011 “Paper and paperboard—Method for measuring basis weight”. The lower limit of the basis weight of the base paper is preferably 30.0 g/m 2 , more preferably 32.0 g/m 2 , still more preferably 35.0 g/m 2 . The upper limit of the basis weight of the base paper is preferably 80.0 g/m 2 , more preferably 75.0 g/m 2 and even more preferably 70.0 g/m 2 . When the basis weight of the base paper is 30.0 g/m 2 or more, it is possible to suppress the deterioration of the barrier properties due to the occurrence of pinholes during papermaking. When the basis weight of the base paper is 80.0 g/m 2 or less, the load on the barrier layer when the base paper is folded due to the thickness of the base paper can be reduced.
(Average thickness of base paper)
The average thickness of the base paper is preferably 30 μm or more and 150 μm or less. When the average thickness of the base paper is within the above range, strength can be maintained while enabling a low basis weight and weight reduction. "Average thickness" is measured according to JIS-P8118:2014.
(Bekk smoothness of coated surface of base paper)
The lower limit of the Bekk smoothness of the surface of the base paper on which the gas barrier layer is provided is 50 seconds, preferably 60 seconds. On the other hand, the upper limit of the Bekk smoothness is 1150 seconds, preferably 1100 seconds. When the Bekk smoothness of the coated surface of the base paper is equal to or higher than the above lower limit, the sealing property of the coating liquid of the gas barrier layer is improved, thereby improving the properties of the gas barrier layer. On the other hand, when the Bekk smoothness of the coated surface of the base paper exceeds the above upper limit, pinholes are generated in the gas barrier layer, and if a water vapor barrier layer is formed thereon, the properties of the water vapor barrier layer may deteriorate. The Bekk smoothness is a value based on "Paper and paperboard - Smoothness test method by Bekk smoothness tester" described in JIS-P8119 (1998). The Bekk smoothness is used to evaluate the smoothness from the amount of air flowing (air leak). The above-mentioned Bekk smoothness is measured by sandwiching a sheet, which is an object to be measured, between an optically flat-finished glass sample stage and a rubber holding plate at a pressure of 100 kPa, and applying 10 ml of air to a relatively wide 10 cm 2 glass standard surface. It is expressed by the time required for the liquid to pass through the gap and flow into the vessel maintained under reduced pressure of about 370 mm of mercury, and indicates the so-called smoothness of the surface of the object to be measured. Beck smoothness evaluates the macroscopic smoothness of a relatively wide surface. In the barrier paper, the waviness of the surface of the base paper can be evaluated based on the Bekk smoothness. Therefore, the surface of the base paper can be evaluated more appropriately with Bekk smoothness.
[Gas barrier layer]
The barrier paper comprises a gas barrier layer laminated on one side or both sides of the base paper. That is, the water vapor barrier layer is laminated on the surface of the gas barrier layer. The barrier paper can have good gas barrier properties by being provided with a gas barrier layer. The gas barrier layer is mainly composed of ethylene-modified polyvinyl alcohol.
(Ethylene-modified polyvinyl alcohol)
Ethylene-modified polyvinyl alcohol is polyvinyl alcohol modified by introducing an ethylene group into the main chain of polyvinyl alcohol, and hydrophilic and hydrophobic functional groups appropriately coexist in the polymer molecule. By using ethylene-modified polyvinyl alcohol as the main component of the gas barrier layer, it is possible to form a film firmly adhering to the base paper and to improve gas barrier properties.
The degree of ethylene modification of ethylene-modified polyvinyl alcohol is represented by mol % of ethylene units relative to the total monomer units (ethylene units+vinyl alcohol units). However, vinyl alcohol units also include unsaponified vinyl acetate units. The degree of ethylene modification is preferably 2 mol % or more and 12 mol % or less.
The average degree of polymerization of ethylene-modified polyvinyl alcohol is preferably 800 or more and 1500 or less from the viewpoint of film-forming properties and coatability.
(Inorganic compound)
The gas barrier layer may contain an inorganic compound from the viewpoint of adjusting the balance between permeation and suppression of the gas barrier layer coating liquid. Examples of inorganic compounds include kaolin such as fine kaolin, primary kaolin, secondary kaolin, delaminated kaolin, and calcined kaolin, and layered compounds (flat compounds) such as bentonite, mica, and colloidal silica. Among these, kaolin is preferable from the viewpoint of achieving both barrier performance and coatability.
As a minimum of the aspect-ratio of an inorganic compound, 15 is preferable and 18 is more preferable. If the aspect ratio of the inorganic compound is less than 15, gas barrier properties may not be sufficient. On the other hand, as an upper limit of the aspect-ratio of the said inorganic compound, 120 is preferable and 100 is more preferable. When the aspect ratio of the inorganic compound is 120 or less, the coating liquid for the gas barrier layer can be applied uniformly and penetration into the base paper can be suppressed, so that high gas barrier properties can be obtained with a low coating amount. can be done. Here, the "aspect ratio" refers to the shape of the inorganic particles, and refers to the ratio of the length (longest diameter) to the thickness (shortest diameter). The above aspect ratio can be determined, for example, by particle image analysis using a laser diffraction/scattering particle distribution measuring device (Horiba LA 950, manufactured by Horiba, Ltd.) or photographing powder particles with an electron microscope, and randomly extracting 500 particles, and measuring the diameter. It can be obtained by dividing by the thickness to obtain an average value.
As a minimum of the average particle diameter of the said inorganic compound, 0.1 micrometer is preferable and 0.5 micrometer is more preferable. On the other hand, the upper limit of the average particle size of the inorganic compound is preferably 10.0 µm, more preferably 5.0 µm. When the average particle size of the inorganic compound is within the above range, unevenness on the surface of the gas barrier layer is reduced, thereby improving the coatability of the coating liquid for the water vapor barrier layer and improving the properties of the water vapor barrier layer. can be done. The average particle diameter is the median diameter ( D50 ) which is the 50% volume particle diameter of the particle size distribution curve measured by the laser diffraction scattering method.
The gas barrier layer contains an inorganic compound in a content of 15 parts by mass or less with respect to 100 parts by mass of ethylene-modified polyvinyl alcohol, or does not contain an inorganic compound. Since the coatability can be improved when the water vapor barrier layer is laminated on the surface of the gas barrier layer, the properties of the water vapor barrier layer can be improved. In addition, the barrier paper has a good effect of suppressing the deterioration of the barrier properties when it is folded. It is preferable that the gas barrier layer does not contain an inorganic compound. Since the gas barrier layer does not contain an inorganic compound, the barrier layer is less likely to be damaged during bending.
The lower limit of the content of ethylene-modified polyvinyl alcohol in the gas barrier layer is preferably 70% by mass, more preferably 80% by mass, and even more preferably 85% by mass. When the ethylene-modified polyvinyl alcohol content is within the above range, the gas barrier properties of the gas barrier layer can be further improved.
In addition to ethylene-modified polyvinyl alcohol and an inorganic compound, the gas barrier layer includes, for example, a thickener, a fluidity improver, an antifoamer, a foam suppressor, a lubricant, a release agent, a foaming agent, a penetrant, a coloring dye, and a coloring pigment. , fluorescent brighteners, ultraviolet absorbers, antioxidants, preservatives, antifungal agents, water-resistant agents, dyes, fixatives, and other conventional additives can be added as needed.
The lower limit of the coating amount of the gas barrier layer is preferably 5 g/m 2 , more preferably 6 g/m 2 . On the other hand, the upper limit of the coating amount (in terms of solid content) is preferably 10 g/m 2 , more preferably 8 g/m 2 . When the coating amount of the gas barrier layer is 5 g/m 2 or more, the surface of the substrate can be uniformly coated with the gas barrier layer. On the other hand, when the coating amount of the gas barrier layer is 10 g/m 2 or less, the drying property of the coating liquid for the gas barrier layer can be improved.
(Bekk smoothness of surface of gas barrier layer)
The lower limit of the Bekk smoothness of the surface of the gas barrier layer is 50 seconds, preferably 60 seconds. On the other hand, the upper limit of the Bekk smoothness is 1150 seconds, preferably 1100 seconds. When the Bekk smoothness of the surface of the gas barrier layer is equal to or higher than the lower limit, the coatability of the coating liquid for the water vapor barrier layer laminated on the surface of the gas barrier layer is improved, and the properties of the water vapor barrier layer can be improved. . On the other hand, when the Bekk smoothness of the surface of the gas barrier layer exceeds the upper limit, the gas barrier layer exhibits high flatness (improved slipperiness) even if a water vapor barrier layer is formed on the surface of the gas barrier layer. A decrease in aptitude may occur.

[Water vapor barrier layer]
The water vapor barrier layer is laminated on the surface of the gas barrier layer. The water vapor barrier layer is mainly composed of a styrene-acrylic copolymer. Since the water vapor barrier layer contains the styrene-acrylic copolymer, the barrier paper can have good water vapor barrier properties.
The lower limit of the content of the styrene-acrylic copolymer in the water vapor barrier layer is preferably 70% by mass, more preferably 90% by mass, and even more preferably 95% by mass in terms of solid content. When the content of the styrene-acrylic copolymer is within the above range, the water vapor barrier property of the water vapor barrier layer can be further improved. Here, the content of the styrene-acrylic copolymer in the water vapor barrier layer may be 100% by mass.
The styrene-acrylic copolymer is not particularly limited as long as it is obtained by copolymerizing various styrene monomers and various (meth)acrylic monomers.
The water vapor barrier layer does not contain an inorganic compound. Since the water vapor barrier layer does not contain an inorganic compound, the water vapor barrier layer is not damaged during bending, so that the deterioration of barrier properties during bending can be further suppressed. The above inorganic compound means the same as those exemplified for the gas barrier layer.
In addition to the styrene-acrylic copolymer, the water vapor barrier layer includes, for example, a thickener, a fluidity improver, an antifoamer, a foam inhibitor, a lubricant, a release agent, a foaming agent, a penetrant, a coloring dye, Ordinary additives such as coloring pigments, fluorescent brighteners, ultraviolet absorbers, antioxidants, preservatives, antifungal agents, water-resistant agents, dyes, fixatives, etc., can be appropriately blended as necessary.
The lower limit of the coating amount of the water vapor barrier layer is 2.0 g/m 2 , preferably 3.0 g/m 2 . On the other hand, the upper limit of the coating amount is 10.0 g/m 2 , preferably 9.0 g/m 2 , from the viewpoint of improving filling properties. If the coating amount of the water vapor barrier layer is less than the above lower limit, the water vapor barrier properties may deteriorate. On the other hand, if the coating amount of the water vapor barrier layer exceeds the above upper limit, blocking may occur during winding of the product, making it unusable as a packaging material.

The Bekk smoothness of the coated surface of the base paper was measured in accordance with JIS-P8119 (1998), “Paper and paperboard—Smoothness test method using a Bekk smoothness tester”.
<Oxygen permeability after cross folding>
It was measured by the following procedure.
First, the laminated surface of the gas barrier layer and the water vapor barrier layer in the obtained barrier paper was turned inside and cross-folded. The method of cross-folding is to reciprocate the barrier paper twice with a roller weighing 2 kg, fold it so that the angle of the crease is 180°, open it, and fold it twice along a line perpendicular to the fold line with a roller of 2 kg. It was reciprocated, folded again so that the fold angle was 180°, and then opened. Then, the intersection of the two polygonal lines was positioned at the center of the measurement area, and the oxygen permeability was measured as described below.
Oxygen permeability is based on JIS-K-7126-1:2006 "Plastics-Films and sheets-Gas permeability test method-Part 1: Differential pressure method", using GTR Tech's "GTR-11AET". Then, the oxygen permeability of the barrier paper was measured in an atmosphere of 23°C.
<Moisture permeability after cross folding>
Next, the resulting barrier paper was cross-folded in the same manner as for the oxygen permeability after cross-folding. Then, the water vapor permeability was measured as described below, with the intersection of the two polygonal lines positioned at the center of the measurement area.
The moisture permeability was measured under condition B in accordance with JIS-Z0208 [1976] moisture permeability test method for moisture-proof packaging materials [cup method].
Table 1 shows the above measurement results and evaluation results.
As shown in Table 1, the gas barrier layer contains ethylene-modified polyvinyl alcohol as a main component, the water vapor barrier layer contains a styrene-acrylic copolymer as a main component, and the gas barrier layer contains 100 parts by mass of the ethylene-modified polyvinyl alcohol in terms of solid content. The gas barrier layer contains an inorganic compound in a content of 15 parts by mass or less, or does not contain an inorganic compound, and the coating amount of the gas barrier layer is 5 g/m 2 or more and 10 g/m 2 or less, and the water vapor barrier layer The barrier papers of Examples 1 to 7, which have a coating amount of 2 g/m 2 or more and 10 g/m 2 or less and the water vapor barrier layer does not contain an inorganic compound, have gas barrier properties and water vapor barrier properties after cross-folding. was excellent in character.
In addition, from the comparison between Example 1 and Example 2, it can be seen that the water vapor barrier performance can be further improved by not containing the inorganic compound in the gas barrier layer. Furthermore, from a comparison between Example 1 and Example 4, it can be seen that the water vapor barrier performance can be further improved when the freeness is 400 ml or less.
On the other hand, the barrier papers of Comparative Examples 1, 2, and 4 to 7, which did not meet the above requirements, were inferior in either or both of the gas barrier properties and water vapor barrier properties after cross-folding. Moreover, Comparative Example 3 did not have blocking resistance.
As a result, it can be seen that the barrier paper can suppress the deterioration of the barrier properties when the paper is folded. Therefore, it was shown that the barrier paper is suitable as a thin and multifunctional industrial material or packaging material.
