Description

The present disclosure relates to printers and computer programs.

Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2002-200000 describes that when print data overlaps a staple area or a punch area, the print data is moved or reduced.

ところで、PDF(Potable Document Format)では、MediaBox(メディアボックス)、CropBox(クロップボックス)、BleedBox(ブリードボックス)、TrimBox(トリムボックス)及びArtBox(アートボックス)の5つの領域(ページサイズ)が設定可能である。 By the way, in PDF (Potable Document Format), 5 areas (page size) can be set: MediaBox, CropBox, BleedBox, TrimBox and ArtBox. is.

For example, when a bleed box or trim box is specified in PDF format data (hereinafter referred to as PDF data), if the finishing area does not overlap the bleed box or trim box, the data output area and the finishing area overlap. There are cases where it is acceptable. The finishing area referred to here is an area where finishing such as stapling or punching is performed on the printing paper. The data output area is the media box when the crop box is not specified, and the overlapping portion of the media box with the crop box when the crop box is specified.

Unnecessarily reducing or moving the print data even in the above cases is not desirable. The above-mentioned Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2002-200000 does not disclose at all that the content of the processing for avoiding the finishing area is changed according to the designation status of the data such as the bleed box and the trim box.

One aspect of the present disclosure aims to change the processing for avoiding the finishing area according to the data designation status in the PDF data, and to suppress unnecessary reduction or movement of the print data.

One aspect of the present disclosure is a printer that includes a printing unit, a finisher unit that performs finishing, and a control unit. The control unit includes an acquisition unit, a first overlap determination unit, a designation determination unit, a second overlap determination unit, and an overlap avoidance unit. The acquisition unit acquires PDF data to be printed. The first overlap determination unit determines whether a data output area of the PDF data acquired by the acquisition unit overlaps a finishing area, which is an area where finishing is performed on the print sheet. The designation determination unit determines whether or not at least one of the bleed box and the trim box is designated in the PDF data. The second overlap determination unit determines whether or not the effective document area overlaps the finishing area when the designation determination unit determines that at least one of the bleed box and the trim box is designated. The effective document area is the area occupied by one of the specified boxes on the printing paper when either one of the bleed box and the trim box is specified. Also, the effective document area is the area occupied by both the bleed box and the trim box on the printing paper when both the bleed box and the trim box are specified. The overlap avoidance unit outputs data when the designation determination unit determines that neither the bleed box nor the trim box is specified and the first overlap determination unit determines that the data output area overlaps the finishing area. Shrink and/or move the region so that it does not overlap the finishing region. On the other hand, when the designation determination unit determines that at least one of the bleed box and the trim box is specified, and the second overlap determination unit determines that the valid document area overlaps the finishing area, the overlap avoidance unit determines that Second, the effective document area is reduced and/or moved so as not to overlap the finishing area.

According to this configuration, when at least one of the bleed box and the trim box is specified, even if the data output area overlaps the finishing area, if the valid original area does not overlap the finishing area, , no data reduction or movement is performed. Therefore, it is possible to change the processing for avoiding the finishing area according to the data designation status in the PDF data, and suppress unnecessary reduction or movement of the print data.

The printing unit 15 has a printing mechanism using inkjet technology or electrophotographic technology, and is capable of printing an image on a sheet of printing paper.
The finisher section 16 performs various finishing processes on the printing paper printed by the printer 1 . Finishing processing includes, for example, stapling processing for printing paper, punching processing (punching processing) for printing paper, and the like.

ここで、PDFでは、図2に示すように、MediaBox(メディアボックス)、CropBox(クロップボックス)、BleedBox(ブリードボックス)、TrimBox(トリムボックス)及びArtBox(アートボックス)の5つの領域(ページサイズ)が設定可能である。
In this embodiment, the control unit 11 executes a first duplication avoidance process shown in FIG. 3 and a second duplication avoidance process shown in FIG. 6, which will be described later, on PDF data as print data.
Here, in PDF, as shown in FIG. 2, there are five areas (page size) of MediaBox, CropBox, BleedBox, TrimBox and ArtBox. can be set.

The media box is indicated by reference numeral 21 in FIG. The media box defines the maximum possible print data area on the print sheet on which the page is printed. The entire box is the print target for printing the print data. A media box is an essential item for each page of PDF data. Normally, a predetermined margin area (for example, a 12-point area) is taken from the edge of the printing paper, and the media box is arranged as an area inside the margin area. Note that the edges of the printing paper are not shown in FIG.

The crop box is omitted from FIG. The crop box defines an area to be clipped when the content of the page is displayed on the display unit of information equipment or the like or printed by the printer 1 . If a crop box value is specified, the overlapping range between the media box and the crop box becomes the print data output area.

The bleed box (bleed size) is indicated by numeral 22 in FIG. A bleed box is an area that indicates the extent to which a production (commercial/industrial printing) system will print. In production printing, in order to place pictures such as photographs up to the edge of the finished page, the bleed portion outside the final finished area is printed, and finally the bleed portion is cut off by cutting. produce a finished product.

The trim box is indicated by 23 in FIG. The trim box defines the intended dimensions of the finished page after trimming. Production-related content such as print instructions, cut marks, color bars, etc. can be placed outside the trim box.

The artbox is indicated by reference numeral 24 in FIG. The artbox indicates the extent of the page's meaningful content intended by the author.
In FIG. 2, reference numeral 25 denotes printer marks.

Here, the data output area in this embodiment means the data output area on the printing paper of the PDF data, and when the crop box is not specified in the PDF data, it matches the media box. On the other hand, when the crop box is specified in the PDF data, the data output area coincides with the overlapping area of the media box and the crop box.

Also, the printable area means an area on the printing paper in which printing is possible. area. In other words, the printable area matches the range of the data output area normally set. However, in this embodiment, the data output area is reduced and/or moved as described later. If the data output area is reduced and/or moved, the printable area and data output area will not match.

[2.処理]
[2. process]
[2-1. First duplication avoidance process]
Next, the first duplication avoidance process executed by the control unit 11 of the printer 1 will be described with reference to the flowchart of FIG. The first duplication avoidance process is executed when the printer 1 acquires PDF data as print data by receiving it from an external information device or the like and Fit To Page is not applied.

Here, Fit To Page is a setting for automatically expanding or contracting the data output area of print data so as to fit (match) the printable area on the printing paper. When printing, the user can set to apply Fit To Page on the printer driver.

First, in S101, the control unit 11 acquires PDF data. That is, when PDF data is received from an external information device or the like and acquired, the PDF data is temporarily stored in the memory 112 . In S<b>101 , PDF data is acquired from the memory 112 .

Subsequently, in S102, the control unit 11 determines whether or not the PDF data includes designation of a valid document area.
Here, the effective manuscript area is the area occupied by one of the specified boxes on the printing paper when either one of the bleed box and the trim box is specified in the PDF data. On the other hand, the effective document area is the area occupied by both the bleed box and the trim box on the printing paper when both the bleed box and the trim box are specified in the PDF data. For example, when both a bleed box and a trim box are specified in the PDF data and one box includes the other box, the valid document area is the box that includes the other box, that is, the larger box. is the area occupied on the printing paper. Also, for example, when both a bleed box and a trim box are specified in the PDF data, and only a part of the two boxes overlap each other, the effective manuscript area is divided into the area occupied by one box and the other box. This area corresponds to the sum of the area containing only

In S102, the control unit 11 determines that the valid document area is specified in the PDF data when at least one of the bleed box and the trim box is specified in the PDF data. On the other hand, when both the bleed box and the trim box are not specified in the PDF data, the control unit 11 determines that there is no valid document area specified in the PDF data.

If the control unit 11 determines in S102 that the PDF data does not specify the valid document area (S102: NO), the control unit 11 proceeds to S103 to check whether the data output area overlaps the finishing area. to decide. The finishing area referred to here is an area where finishing is performed on the printing paper. The finishing area is, for example, a stapling area where stapling is performed, a punching area where punching is performed, and the like.

If the control unit 11 determines in S103 that the data output area and the finishing area overlap (S103: YES), the process proceeds to S104.
In S104, the control unit 11 executes avoidance processing for reducing or moving the data output area so as to avoid the finishing area. Here, if there is a blank area to which the data output area can be moved so as not to overlap the finishing area, the control unit 11 moves the data output area to the blank area without reducing the data output area. On the other hand, if the blank area does not exist, the control unit 11 reduces or moves the data output area in addition to the reduction. That is, if the blank area exists on the printing paper, the data output area is moved, and if the data output area cannot fit on the printing paper after the movement, the data output area is reduced.

Note that the control unit 11 performs minimal movement and/or reduction so that the data output area does not overlap the finishing area. That is, the control unit 11 moves and/or reduces the data output area so that changes in the position and size of the data output area are minimized.

For example, the control unit 11 moves and/or reduces the data output area as shown in FIGS. 4(a) and 4(b). Specifically, in the state shown in FIG. 4A, the staple area 4 as a finishing area exists in the upper left area of the printing paper 3 . In FIG. 4A, reference numeral 21 indicates a data output area. In the example shown in FIG. 4A, it is assumed that the crop box is not specified, the data output area 21 matches the media box, a predetermined margin area is taken from the edge of the printing paper 3, and the margin area is This is the inner area. That is, the data output area 21 matches the printable area. In the state shown in FIG. 4A, the data output area 21 and the staple area 4 overlap.

The control unit 11 moves and/or reduces the data output area 21 from the state shown in FIG. 4(a) to the state shown in FIG. 4(b). In this example, it is assumed that there is no blank area that can be moved without shrinking the data output area 21 so as not to overlap the staple area 4 . Therefore, the control unit 11 reduces the data output area 21 and moves it so as not to overlap with the staple area 4, as shown in FIG. 4B. At this time, the control unit 11 performs minimal reduction and movement so that the upper left corner of the rectangular area of the data output area 21 is positioned just inside the staple area 4 .

Subsequently, the control unit 11 prints the PDF data on printing paper via the printing unit 15 in S105. When the avoidance process of S104 described above is executed, the control unit 11 prints the PDF data with the contents of the execution of the avoidance process. After executing S105, the control unit 11 ends the first duplication avoidance process in FIG.

On the other hand, when the control unit 11 determines in S103 that the data output area and the finishing area do not overlap (S103: NO), it skips S104 and executes S105. That is, when it is determined that the data output area and the finishing area do not overlap, the PDF data is printed with the contents obtained in S101. After executing S105, the control unit 11 ends the first duplication avoidance process in FIG.

On the other hand, if the control section 11 determines in S102 that the PDF data contains the designation of the effective document area (S102: YES), the process proceeds to S106.
In S106, the control section 11 determines whether or not the valid document area and the finishing area overlap.

If the control section 11 determines in S106 that the effective document area and the finishing area overlap (S106: YES), the process proceeds to S107.
In S107, the control unit 11 reduces and/or moves the effective document area so as to avoid the finishing area. S107 is basically the same process as S104 described above, except that the data output area is replaced with the valid document area.

That is, if there is a blank area to which the effective document area can be moved so as not to overlap the finishing area, the control unit 11 moves the effective document area toward the blank area without reducing the effective document area. On the other hand, when the margin area does not exist, the control section 11 reduces the effective document area or moves it in addition to the reduction. That is, if the blank area exists on the printing paper, the effective document area is moved, and if the data output area cannot be accommodated on the printing paper after the movement, the effective document area is reduced. Note that the control unit 11 performs minimal movement or reduction so that the effective document area does not overlap the finishing area.

Further, when moving and/or reducing the effective manuscript area, the control unit 11 maintains the relative position and size of the data output area and the effective manuscript area while maintaining both the data output area and the effective manuscript area. is moved and/or reduced.

For example, the control section 11 moves and/or reduces the effective document area as shown in FIGS. 5(a) and 5(b). Specifically, in the state shown in FIG. 5A, the stapling area 4 as the finishing area exists in the upper left area of the printing paper 3, and the stapling area 4 and the valid document area 5 overlap. Note that the data output area 21 also overlaps with the staple area 4 .

The control unit 11 moves and/or reduces the effective document area 5 from the state shown in FIG. 5(a) to the state shown in FIG. 5(b). In this example, it is assumed that there is no margin area that can be moved without reducing the effective document area 5 so as not to overlap the staple area 4 . Therefore, the control section 11 reduces and moves the effective document area 5 as shown in FIG. 5(b). At this time, the control unit 11 performs minimum reduction and movement so that the upper left corner of the rectangular area of the effective document area 5 is positioned just inside the staple area 4 .

Although the data output area 21 is also reduced and moved together, in this example, the data output area 21 remains overlapped with the staple area 4 even after reduction and movement. That is, when the valid document area 5 is designated, the data output area 21 may overlap the staple area 4, and the valid document area 5 should not overlap the staple area 4. FIG.

Subsequently, the control unit 11 executes S105 described above. When the avoidance process of S107 described above is executed, the control unit 11 prints the PDF data with the contents of the execution of the avoidance process. After executing S105, the control unit 11 ends the first duplication avoidance process in FIG.

On the other hand, if the control section 11 determines in S106 that the valid document area and the finishing area do not overlap (S106: NO), it skips S107 and executes S105. In other words, when it is determined that the valid document area and the finishing area do not overlap, the PDF data is printed with the contents acquired in S101.

[2-2. Second duplication avoidance process]
Next, the second duplication avoidance process executed by the control unit 11 will be described using the flowchart of FIG. The second duplication avoidance process is executed when the printer 1 acquires PDF data as print data by receiving it from an external information device or the like and Fit To Page is set to ON.

S201 and S202 are the same processes as S101 and S102 in FIG. 3 described above, respectively, so description thereof will be omitted.
If the control unit 11 determines in S202 that the valid document area is not specified in the PDF data (S202: NO), the process proceeds to S203.

In S203, the control unit 11 expands or reduces the data output area so that it fits (matches) the printable area.
Subsequently, in S204, the control unit 11 determines whether or not the data output area and the finishing area overlap.

If it is determined in S204 that the data output area and the finishing area overlap (S204: YES), the control unit 11 proceeds to S205 and adjusts the scaling ratio so that the data output area is located inside the finishing area. adjust. The scaling ratio here means the ratio of expanding or contracting the data output area.

That is, since the Fit To Page setting is on, the data output area is enlarged or reduced to fit the printable area. At this time, the data output area is enlarged or reduced so as not to overlap the finishing area.

For example, the control unit 11 adjusts the scaling ratio as shown in FIGS. 7(a) and 7(b). Specifically, in the state shown in FIG. 7A, the data output area 21 and the staple area 4 overlap when the data output area 21 is expanded or contracted to fit the printable area 31 . From this state, the control unit 11 adjusts the scaling ratio so that the data output area 21 does not overlap the staple area 4, as shown in FIG. 7B. Here, the control unit 11 performs the minimum reduction so that the upper left corner of the rectangular area of the data output area 21 is positioned just inside the staple area 4 .

Subsequently, the control unit 11 prints the PDF data on printing paper via the printing unit 15 in S206. The control unit 11 executes S205 described above, and when the scaling ratio is adjusted, prints the PDF data at the adjusted scaling ratio. After executing S<b>206 , the control unit 11 ends the second overlap avoidance process of FIG. 6 .

On the other hand, if the control unit 11 determines in S204 that the data output area and the finishing area do not overlap (S204: NO), it skips S205 and proceeds to S206. That is, when it is determined that the data output area and the finishing area do not overlap, the PDF data is printed in a state where the data output area is expanded or reduced so as to match the printable area in S203.

On the other hand, when the control unit 11 determines in S202 described above that the valid document area is specified in the PDF data (S202: YES), the process proceeds to S207.
In S207, the control unit 11 expands or contracts the data output area to match the printable area.

Subsequently, in S208, the control unit 11 determines whether or not the valid document area and the finishing area overlap.
If the control unit 11 determines in S208 that the effective document area and the finishing area overlap (S208: YES), the process proceeds to S209.

In S209, the control unit 11 adjusts the enlargement/reduction ratio so that the effective document area is located inside the finishing area. The term "scaling ratio" as used herein means the ratio of expanding or contracting the data output area and the valid document area. That is, when the enlargement/reduction ratio of the data output area is adjusted, the enlargement/reduction ratio of the effective original area is also adjusted accordingly.

For example, the control unit 11 adjusts the scaling ratio as shown in FIGS. 8(a) and 8(b). Specifically, in the state shown in FIG. 8A, the valid document area 5 overlaps the staple area 4 when the data output area 21 is enlarged or reduced to match the printable area 31 . From this state, the control unit 11 adjusts the enlargement/reduction ratio so that the effective document area 5 does not overlap the staple area 4, as shown in FIG. 8B. Here, the control unit 11 performs the minimum reduction so that the upper left corner of the rectangular area of the effective document area 5 is positioned just inside the staple area 4 . The data output area 21 may overlap the stapling area 4 , and the scaling ratio is adjusted so that the effective document area 5 does not overlap the stapling area 4 .

After that, the control unit 11 executes S206 described above. The control unit 11 executes S209 described above, and when the scaling ratio is adjusted, the PDF data is printed at the adjusted scaling ratio. After executing S<b>206 , the control unit 11 ends the second overlap avoidance process of FIG. 6 .

On the other hand, if the control unit 11 determines in S208 that the valid document area and the finishing area do not overlap (S208: NO), the control unit 11 skips S209 and proceeds to S206. Here, FIG. 9 shows a state in which the effective document area 5 does not overlap the staple area 4 when the data output area 21 is enlarged or reduced to match the printable area 3. is shown.

That is, when it is determined that the valid document area and the finishing area do not overlap, the PDF data is printed in a state where the data output area is expanded or reduced so as to match the printable area in S207.

[3. effect]
According to the embodiment detailed above, the following effects are obtained.
(1) In the present embodiment, when it is determined that neither the bleed box nor the trim box is designated and the data output area overlaps the finishing area, the control unit 11 performs finishing on the data output area. Shrink and/or move the area so that it does not overlap. Further, when it is determined that at least one of the bleed box and the trim box is specified and the effective document area overlaps the finishing area, the control unit 11 does not overlap the effective document area with the finishing area. shrink and/or move as

Therefore, when at least one of the bleed box and the trim box is specified, even if the data output area overlaps the finishing area, if the valid document area does not overlap the finishing area, data reduction and movement are performed. is not performed. Therefore, it is possible to change the processing for avoiding the finishing area according to the data designation status in the PDF data, and suppress unnecessary reduction or movement of the print data.

(2) In the present embodiment, the control unit 11 determines that neither the bleed box nor the trim box is specified when the Fit to Page setting is turned on, and the data output area is set to finishing. If it is determined that the area overlaps, the data output area is expanded or contracted so as not to overlap the finishing area. Further, the control unit 11 determines that at least one of the bleed box and the trim box is specified, and also determines that the effective document area is the finishing area when the data output area is expanded or contracted to match the printable area. , the data output area is expanded or contracted to fit the printable area. On the other hand, when the control unit 11 judges that the effective document area overlaps the finishing area when the data output area is expanded or reduced to match the printable area, the control unit 11 outputs data so that the effective document area does not overlap the finishing area. Expand or shrink a region.

Therefore, when Fit to Page is turned on, the data output area or valid document area can be prevented from overlapping the finishing area.
(3) In the present embodiment, the control unit 11 reduces the data output area or effective document area when there is a blank area that can be moved so that the data output area or effective document area does not overlap with the finishing area. If the blank area does not exist, the data output area or the effective document area is reduced.

Therefore, it is possible to suppress unnecessary reduction when the data output area or effective document area is not overlapped with the finishing area. As a result, it is possible to reduce the number of cases where the printed image becomes difficult to view as a result of reduction.

Note that in the present embodiment, S101 and S201 correspond to processing as an acquisition unit, S102 and S202 correspond to processing as a designation determination unit, and S103 and S204 correspond to an example of processing as a first duplication determination unit. S106 and S208 correspond to an example of processing as a second overlap determination unit, and S104, S107, S205 and 209 correspond to an example of processing as an overlap avoidance unit.
