式中、R21は炭素原子数2から10のアルケニル基を表されるが、炭素原子数2から5のアルケニル基であることが好ましい。R22は炭素原子数1から10のアルキル基、炭素原子数1から10のアルコキシル基、炭素原子数2から10のアルケニル基又は炭素原子数2から10のアルケニルオキシ基を表し、R22中に存在する1個の−CH2−又は隣接していない2個以上の−CH2−はそれぞれ独立的に−O−及び/又は−S−に置換されても良く、R22中に存在する1個又は2個以上の水素原子はそれぞれ独立的にフッ素原子又は塩素原子に置換されても良いが、炭素原子数1から5のアルキル基、炭素原子数1から5のアルコキシル基、炭素原子数2から5のアルケニル基又は炭素原子数2から5のアルケニルオキシ基であることが好ましい。n21は0又は1を表す。
式中、R31からR34は、それぞれ独立的に炭素原子数1から10のアルキル基、炭素原子数1から10のアルコキシル基、炭素原子数2から10のアルケニル基又は炭素原子数2から10のアルケニルオキシ基を表し、R31からR34中に存在する1個の−CH2−又は隣接していない2個以上の−CH2−はそれぞれ独立的に−O−及び/又は−S−に置換されても良く、また、R31からR34中に存在する1個又は2個以上の水素原子はそれぞれ独立的にフッ素原子又は塩素原子に置換されても良いが、R31及びR33は、それぞれ独立的に炭素原子数1から5のアルキル基、炭素原子数1から5のアルコキシル基、炭素原子数2から5のアルケニル基又は炭素原子数2から5のアルケニルオキシ基が好ましく、炭素原子数1から5のアルキル基又は炭素原子数2から5のアルケニル基が更に好ましく、炭素原子数1から3のアルキル基又は炭素原子数2から3のアルケニル基が更に好ましく、R32及びR34は、それぞれ独立的に炭素原子数1から5のアルキル基、炭素原子数1から5のアルコキシル基、炭素原子数2から5のアルケニル基又は炭素原子数2から5のアルケニルオキシ基が好ましく、炭素原子数1から5のアルキル基、炭素原子数1から5のアルコキシル基が更に好ましい。
式中、R41及びR42は、それぞれ独立的に炭素原子数1から5のアルキル基又は炭素原子数1から5のアルコキシ基を表し、炭素原子数2から4のアルキル基又は炭素原子数1から3のアルコキシ基であることが好ましい。
本発明の重合性化合物含有液晶組成物は、式(I−1)、式(II)、一般式(III−A1)及び一般式(IV−A)の化合物を同時に含有することが好ましく、式(I−1)、式(II)、一般式(III−A3)及び一般式(IV−A)の化合物を同時に含有することが好ましく、式(I−1)、式(II)、一般式(III−A4)及び一般式(IV−A)の化合物を同時に含有することが好ましく、式(I−1)、式(II)、一般式(III−B1)及び一般式(IV−A)の化合物を同時に含有することが好ましく、式(I−1)、式(II)、一般式(III−B3)及び一般式(IV−A)の化合物を同時に含有することが好ましく、式(I−1)、式(II)、一般式(III−B4)及び一般式(IV−A)の化合物を同時に含有することが好ましく、式(I−1)、式(II)、一般式(III−B5)及び一般式(IV−A)の化合物を同時に含有することが好ましい。
式中、R108、R109、R111およびR112は、それぞれ独立的に式(R−1)から式(R−15)、炭素原子数1から3のアルキル基、炭素原子数1から3のアルコキシ基、フッ素原子又は水素原子のいずれかを表し、A12は、1,4−フェニレン基、1,4−シクロヘキシレン基、ピリジン−2,5−ジイル基、ピリミジン−2,5−ジイル基、ナフタレン−2,6−ジイル基、インダン−2,5−ジイル基、1,2,3,4−テトラヒドロナフタレン−2,6−ジイル基又は1,3−ジオキサン−2,5−ジイル基を表すが、基は無置換であるか又は炭素原子数1〜12のアルキル基、炭素原子数1〜12のアルコキシル基、ハロゲン、シアノ基又はニトロ基で置換されていても良く、L14は単結合、−OCH2−、−CH2O−、−C2H4−、−COO−、−OCO−、−CH=CRa−COO−、−CH=CRa−OCO−、−COO−CRa=CH−、−OCO−CRa=CH−、−(CH2)z−COO−、−(CH2)z−OCO−、−OCO−(CH2)z−、−COO−(CH2)z−、−CH=CH−、−CF2O−、−OCF2−又は−C≡C−(式中、Raはそれぞれ独立して水素原子又は炭素原子数1〜3のアルキル基を表し、前記式中、zは1〜4の整数を表す。)を表す。
実施例において化合物の記載について以下の略号を用いる。

(比較例1、比較例2、実施例1及び実施例2)
LC−100の液晶組成物を調製し、このLC−100に対して、重合性化合物であるRM−21−02、RM−21−08、XX−4及びM302から選ばれる化合物を添加したLC−A(比較例1)、LC−B(比較例2)、LC−1(実施例1)及びLC−2(実施例2)の液晶組成物を調製し、その物性値を測定した。液晶組成物の構成とその物性値の結果は表1のとおりであった。
これを使用した液晶表示素子の応答速度を測定したところ、十分に高速応答であることが確認された。なお、セル厚は3.5um、配向膜はJALS2096であり、応答速度の測定条件は、Vonは6V、Voffは1V、測定温度は25℃で、測定機器はAUTRONIC−MELCHERS社のDMS703を用いた。
(実施例3、実施例4及び実施例5)
LC−200の液晶組成物を調製し、このLC−200に対して、重合性化合物であるRM−21−03、RM−21−06、XX−2及びM302から選ばれる化合物を添加したLC−3(実施例3)、LC−4(実施例4)及びLC−5(実施例5)の液晶組成物を調製し、その物性値を測定した。液晶組成物の構成とその物性値の結果は表2のとおりであった。
これを使用した液晶表示素子の応答速度を測定したところ、十分に高速応答であることが確認された。なお、セル厚は3.5um、配向膜はJALS2096であり、応答速度の測定条件は、Vonは6V、Voffは1V、測定温度は25℃で、測定機器はAUTRONIC−MELCHERS社のDMS703を用いた。
(実施例6)
LC−300の液晶組成物を調製し、このLC−300に対して、重合性化合物であるRM−22−02及びM301を添加したLC−6(実施例6)の液晶組成物を調製し、その物性値を測定した。液晶組成物の構成とその物性値の結果は表3のとおりであった。
これを使用した液晶表示素子の応答速度を測定したところ、十分に高速応答であることが確認された。なお、セル厚は3.5um、配向膜はJALS2096であり、応答速度の測定条件は、Vonは6V、Voffは1V、測定温度は25℃で、測定機器はAUTRONIC−MELCHERS社のDMS703を用いた。
Claims (8)
- 第一成分として、一般式(I−1)
更に一般式(I−31)及び一般式(I−32)
- 第二成分であるアルケニル側鎖基を有する液晶性化合物が、一般式(II)
- 第三成分として、一般式(III−1)及び一般式(III−2)
- 第一成分である一般式(I−1)で表される化合物が、一般式(I−21)及び一般式(I−22)
- 請求項1から5のいずれか1項に記載の液晶組成物を用いた液晶表示素子。
- 請求項1から5のいずれか1項に記載の液晶組成物を用いたアクティブマトリックス駆動用液晶表示素子。
- 請求項1から5のいずれか1項に記載の液晶組成物を用いたPSAモード、PSVAモード、PS−IPSモード又はPS−FFSモード用液晶表示素子。
