[技術分野]

[背景]
発光ダイオード(LED) は、電気エネルギーを光に変換させる半導体装置であり、一般的に、反対にドープされた層の間に挟まれた1つ以上の半導体材料の活性層を含んでいる。バイアスがドープ層に印加されると、正孔および電子が1つあるいは複数の活性層へと注入されて、1つあるいは複数の活性層において再結合し、この装置から放射される光を発生する。レーザダイオードは、類似した原理に従って作動する半導体放射体である。

1つの実施形態において、LED電球は、支持柱を含み、この支持柱は少なくとも部分的に透過性のカバー(「球体」とも呼ばれる)内に設けられた部分と、このカバーから延出して周囲環境にさらされる部分とを有する。このような支持柱は、構造的、電気的、および/あるいは熱伝達的機能を提供してもよい。1つの実施形態において、このような支持柱は、この支持柱の周囲に配置された別個の(例えば成形された)ボディを有していなくてもよい。
図1は、本発明の1つの実施形態に係るLED電球10を図示している。電球10は、基端11と、カバー30によって画定された内部容積30内に配置された複数のLED45〜47と、基端11とカバー30との間に延在する支持柱20とを含む。基端11に沿って設けられているのは、端部接点15、およびネジ込み式のエジソン型ソケットに結合するように構成された側部接点16である。LED45〜47はそれぞれ、複数のLED取付面41〜43上に配置される。このようなLED取付面41〜43は、支持柱20と共に形成されてもよく、あるいは支持柱20に結合するように構成された既製部分40上に配置されてもよい。支持柱20は、伝導性の材料の内側部分で形成され、この材料は、その露出部分を覆うように電気絶縁材料29の層あるいはコーティングを有し、ユーザが支持柱20に接触することによって起こる電気ショックを防ぐように製造されていてもよい。このような実施形態において、側部接点16および端部接点15(環状絶縁要素(図示せず)によって隔離されていてもよい)の一方あるいは双方が、支持柱20と一体形成されていてもよい。支持柱20には、外面に沿って設けられた複数の第1ポートあるいは開口部26が当該支持柱20内に画定されており、またカバー30内には複数の第2ポートあるいは開口部28が設けられている。1つあるいは複数の流路あるいは管(図示せず)が支持柱20内、あるいは支持柱20の外面に沿って設けられ、複数のポートあるいは開口部26,28の間の空気の動きを可能にし、内部容積31が周囲環境と流体連結の状態になるようにしてもよい。このような配置によって、内部容積31から熱が放出され、LED電球10を冷却するためのヒートシンクの必要性が低減される。
図5を参照すると、他の実施形態に係るLED電球は、電球310の支持柱320内において一体化された流体循環要素350とヒートパイプ355とを含む。この電球310は、基端311と、カバー330によって画定された内部容積331内に配置された複数のLED345〜347と、基端311とカバー330との間に延在する支持柱320とを含む。電気接点315,316は、基端311に近接して設けられている。LED345〜347は、支持面341〜343上に配置され、熱を支持柱320内あるいは支持柱320に沿って熱拡散器349から基端311に向かう方向に運ぶように設けられたヒートパイプ355と接触して配置された内部熱拡散器349と熱的導通の状態になっている。支持柱320には、ヒートパイプ355の一端において空気の動きを可能にするべく、開口部320Aが画定されていてもよい。少なくとも1つのセンサ359が1つあるいは複数の状態(例えば温度、空気の流れ、圧力差、電流の流れ等)を検出するために設けられ、流体循環要素350の動作の開始あるいは調整、LED345〜347の動作の制限、流体循環要素350の清掃あるいは交換等が必要であることを示してもよい。
Claims (23)
- 発光ダイオード(LED)電球であって、
少なくとも1つの電気配線が表面に形成された基板を含むLEDライトエンジンであって、該基板が、複数のLEDを取り付けられた、複数の、非同一平面上のLED支持面部を形成する少なくとも1つの屈曲を有し、該基板が、該少なくとも1つの屈曲と、前記複数の、非同一平面上のLED支持面部とを越えて連続的に広がる単一の基板を備える、LEDライトエンジンと、
前記LED電球の基端に配置された複数の電気接点を含む基部要素と、
前記LEDライトエンジンの前記複数のLEDが含まれる内部容積を画定する光透過性カバーと、
前記基部要素と関連し、前記基端と前記カバーとの間に配置された外部からアクセス可能なヒートシンクと、
を備え、
前記LEDライトエンジンは、前記基部要素と結合され、前記基部要素への機械的、電気的、および熱的接続を形成している、LED電球。 - 請求項1に記載のLED電球であって、さらに、
前記LEDライトエンジンと前記基部要素との間に取り付けるのを容易にするように構成された少なくとも1つの圧縮止めまたはソケットを備え、
前記LEDライトエンジンは、前記少なくとも1つの圧縮止めまたはソケットを介して、前記基部要素と結合されている、LED電球。 - 請求項1または請求項2に記載のLED電球であって、
前記外部からアクセス可能なヒートシンクは、前記複数のLEDによって発せられる熱を拡散するように配置された複数のフィンを備える、LED電球。 - 請求項1〜3のうちのいずれか1項に記載のLED電球であって、さらに、
前記基部要素に配置された1つあるいは複数の電気制御回路要素を備える、LED電球。 - 請求項4に記載のLED電球であって、
前記1つあるいは複数の電気制御回路要素は、LED駆動回路要素およびLED制御回路要素とのうちのいずれかを備える、LED電球。 - 請求項1〜5のうちのいずれか1項に記載のLED電球であって、
前記少なくとも1つの電気配線は、複数の電気配線を備える、LED電球。 - 請求項1〜6のうちのいずれか1項に記載のLED電球であって、
前記基端は、側部電気接点と端部電気接点とを含むエジソンタイプのねじ込み式電球コネクタを備える、LED電球。 - 請求項1〜7のうちのいずれか1項に記載のLED電球であって、
前記基端は、ねじ込み式電気ソケットと結合するように構成された、ねじ込み式接点を画定する端部キャップを備える、LED電球。 - 請求項1〜7のうちのいずれか1項に記載のLED電球であって、
前記基板は、メタルコアのプリント回路基板を備える、LED電球。 - 請求項1〜7のうちのいずれか1項に記載のLED電球であって、
前記基板は、型打ちされた金属層および少なくとも1つの電気絶縁層を備える、LED電球。 - 請求項1〜9のうちのいずれか1項に記載のLED電球であって、
前記LEDライトエンジンの少なくとも1つの支持面部は、前記LEDライトエンジンと前記基部要素との間に接続するのを容易にするように配置された少なくとも1つのエッジコネクタ部を備える、LED電球。 - 請求項11に記載のLED電球であって、
前記少なくとも1つのエッジコネクタ部は、前記基部要素に画定された少なくとも1つの開口部を貫いて挿入されるように配置されている、LED電球。 - 請求項1〜12のうちのいずれか1項に記載のLED電球であって、
前記カバーは、拡散器、およびレンズのうちのいずれかを備える、LED電球。 - 請求項1〜10のうちのいずれか1項に記載のLED電球であって、
前記カバーは、発光材料を備える、LED電球。 - 請求項1〜14のうちのいずれか1項に記載のLED電球であって、
前記カバーは、空気あるいはその他の流体が前記内部容積と周囲環境との間を流通可能にする複数の開口部を備える、LED電球。 - 請求項1〜14のうちのいずれか1項に記載のLED電球であって、
前記カバーの少なくとも一部は、少なくとも80%の可視透過率スペクトルと、25°Cにおいて少なくとも25W/(m・°K)の熱伝導率とを有する材料を備え、
前記カバーは、前記複数のLEDと熱的導通の状態にある、LED電球。 - 請求項1〜16のうちのいずれか1項に記載のLED電球を備える、照明固定器具。
- 請求項1〜16のうちのいずれか1項に記載のLED電球を使用する方法であって、
前記複数のLEDを点灯させるために、前記少なくとも1つの電気配線に電流を供給することを備える、方法。 - 請求項1〜16のうちのいずれか1項に記載のLED電球を製造する方法であって、
複数のLEDのための少なくとも1つの電気配線を画定するために平面の基板をパターニングすることと、
前記少なくとも1つの電気配線と電気接続された状態で複数のLEDを前記基板に取り付けることと、
前記基板に少なくとも1つの屈曲を画定して、前記複数のLEDが取り付けられる、複数の、非同一平面上の、LED取付面部を形成するように、前記基板を成形することと
を備える、方法。 - 請求項19に記載の方法であって、
前記基板を成形することは、前記複数のLEDを前記基板に取り付けることの後に行われる、方法。 - 請求項19に記載の方法であって、
前記成形する工程の後に、さらに、前記基部要素への機械的、電気的、および熱的接続を形成するために前記基板を前記基部要素と結合させることを備える、方法。 - 請求項19に記載の方法であって、さらに、
LED駆動回路要素およびLED制御回路要素のうちの少なくとも一方を、前記基板に取り付けること、前記基板内に画定すること、または、前記基板上に画定することを備える、方法。 - 請求項19に記載の方法であって、さらに、
前記LEDライトエンジンの少なくとも一部を覆う光透過性のカバーを配置することを備える、方法。
