また、充電時には、次の式に示すように、前記正極において、前記放電により生成した酸化リチウム又は過酸化リチウムが分解し、リチウムイオンと酸素イオンとが生成する。生成したリチウムイオンは、前記電解質層へ移動し、該電解質層を透過して前記負極に移動する。また、生成した酸素イオンは、そのまま前記酸素貯蔵材料へ吸蔵される。或いは、前記酸素イオンは、電子を放出して酸化され、酸素分子となって前記酸素貯蔵材料に吸着される。一方、前記負極では、該負極に移動した前記リチウムイオンが還元されて、金属リチウムとして析出する。

本発明の金属酸素電池において、上記の電池反応のうち前記正極で起きる反応は、前記粒子状の酸素貯蔵材料と前記導電助剤と前記電解液とで形成される三相界面で起きる。

また、充電時には、次の式に示すように、正極2において、前記放電により生成した酸化リチウム又は過酸化リチウムが分解し、リチウムイオンと酸素イオンとが生成する。生成したリチウムイオンは、電解質層4へ移動し、該電解質層4を透過して負極3に移動する。また、生成した酸素イオンは、そのまま酸素貯蔵材料14へ吸蔵される。或いは、前記酸素イオンは、電子を放出して酸化され、酸素分子となって酸素貯蔵材料14に吸着される。一方、負極3では、該負極3に移動した前記リチウムイオンが還元されて、金属リチウムとして析出する。

本実施形態の金属酸素電池1において、上記の電池反応のうち正極2で起きる反応は、酸素貯蔵材料14と、導電助剤12と、前記電解液とで形成された前記三相界面で起きる。
本実施例では、導電助剤12としてのケッチェンブラック(商品名:EC600JD、ライオン株式会社製、粒径34nm(1次粒子))50質量部と、結着剤11としてのカルボキシメチルセルロース(CMC、商品名:MAC350HC、日本製紙ケミカル株式会社製)10質量部と、純水500質量部とを混合し、スラリー状の高分子複合体13を得た。高分子複合体13の粘度を、振動式粘度計(エー・アンド・デイ株式会社製)を用いて測定したところ、1.39Pa・sであった。
本比較例では、まず、実施例と全く同一にして、化学式YMnO3で表される複合金属酸化物からなる酸素貯蔵材料を得た。本比較例の酸素貯蔵材料を用いた以外は、実施例と全く同一にして、粒径を測定したところ、平均粒径は1.9μmであった。

- 粒子状の酸素貯蔵材料、導電助剤、及び結着剤を含む混合物からなるとともに酸素を活物質とする正極と、金属リチウムを活物質とする負極と、該正極及び該負極に挟持された電解質層と、前記正極内で前記酸素貯蔵材料及び前記導電助剤とともに三相界面を形成する電解液とを備える金属酸素電池において、
前記結着剤は、伸縮性を有するとともに該電解液に浸透可能な高分子からなり、
前記正極は、前記結着剤に前記導電助剤が分散された高分子複合体からなるとともに前記酸素貯蔵材料の表面を被覆する被覆膜を備えることを特徴とする金属酸素電池。 - 請求項1記載の金属酸素電池において、

前記酸素貯蔵材料は、YMnO3で表される複合金属酸化物であることを特徴とする金属酸素電池。 - 請求項1乃至請求項3のいずれか1項記載の金属酸素電池において、
前記結着剤は、カルボキシメチルセルロースであることを特徴とする金属酸素電池。 - 粒子状の酸素貯蔵材料、導電助剤、及び結着剤を含む混合物からなるとともに酸素を活物質とする正極と、金属リチウムを活物質とする負極と、該正極及び該負極に挟持された電解質層と、前記正極内で前記酸素貯蔵材料及び前記導電助剤とともに三相界面を形成する電解液とを備える金属酸素電池の製造方法において、
前記結着剤として、伸縮性を有するとともに前記電解液に浸透可能な高分子を用い、該結着剤と該導電助剤と水とを混合し、スラリー状高分子複合体を得る工程と、
該スラリー状高分子複合体と前記酸素貯蔵材料とを混合し、前記混合物を得る工程と、
該混合物を基板に塗布する工程と、
該基板に塗布された混合物を乾燥して前記正極を形成する工程と
を備えることを特徴とする金属酸素電池の製造方法。 - 請求項5記載の金属酸素電池の製造方法において、
前記スラリー状高分子複合体の粘度は、0.01〜100Pa・sの範囲であることを特徴とする金属酸素電池の製造方法。
