本願は、2006年10月25日に出願された同時係属中の米国仮特許出願第60/854,348号に基づく優先権を主張している。
他の実施形態においては、焼結炭化物粉末が型に付加され且つ固化されて第一の圧粉体が形成される。続いて、ヒートシンク材料が前記第一の圧粉体に付加され、結合された材料が固化される。続いて、第二の圧粉体が焼結されて物品が形成される。当該物品は、焼結炭化物の焼結中に形成された焼結炭化物を含んでいる加工部分と、ヒートシンク材料を含んでいるヒートシンク部分とを含んでいる。しかしながら、ヒートシンク材料の特性を考えると、金属結合は、加熱中に、加工部分とヒートシンク部分との間に形成されないであろう。

Claims (39)
- バインダと、チタン、クロム、バナジウム、ジルコニウム、ハフニウム、タンタル、モリブデン、ニオビウム及びタングステンから選択された少なくとも1つの遷移金属の炭化物の硬質粒子とを含む焼結炭化物を含んでいる加工部分と、
前記加工部分を支持する本体部分であって、凹部を備えている内側領域を含んでいる前記本体部分と、
前記焼結炭化物よりも高い熱伝導率を有しているヒートシンク材料からなるヒートシンク部分であって、前記加工部分と熱的に連通していて外加工部分から熱を伝導させるヒートシンク部分と、を含み、
該ヒートシンク部分の少なくとも一部分が前記凹部内に配置されている、物品。 - 請求項1に記載の物品であり、
前記ヒートシンク部分が前記本体部分と接触していることを特徴とする物品。 - 請求項1に記載の物品であり、
前記ヒートシンク部分が前記本体部分の少なくとも一部分を含んでいることを特徴とする物品。 - 請求項1に記載の物品であり、

前記バインダが、コバルト、ニッケル及び鉄のうちの少なくとも1つを含んでいることを特徴とする物品。 - 請求項1に記載の物品であり、
前記焼結炭化物が、タングステンカーバイドの硬質粒子及びコバルトを含んでいるバインダを含んでいることを特徴とする物品。 - 請求項1に記載の物品であり、
前記焼結炭化物が、2〜40重量パーセントのバインダと、60〜98重量パーセントの粒子とを含んでいることを特徴とする物品。 - 請求項1に記載の物品であり、
前記硬質粒子が、0.3〜10μmの平均粒径を有しているタングステンカーバイド粒子を含んでいることを特徴とする物品。 - 請求項1に記載の物品であり、
前記ヒートシンク材料が150W/mKより高い熱伝導率を有していることを特徴とする物品。 - 請求項1に記載の物品であり、
前記ヒートシンク材料が、銅、アルミニウム、銀、金、シリコンカーバイド、窒化アルミニウム、窒化硼素、アルミニウムシリコンカーバイド、酸化ベリリウム、シリコン−シリコンカーバイド、銅タングステン合金、銅モリブデンカーバイド、炭素、ダイヤモンド、グラファイト及びこれらの2以上の組み合わせから選択された物質を含んでいることを特徴とする物品。 - 請求項1に記載の物品であり、
焼結炭化物が混成の焼結炭化物からなることを特徴とする物品。 - 請求項12に記載の物品であり、
前記混成の焼結炭化物が、
焼結炭化物が分散された相と、
焼結炭化物の連続相とを含み、

前記ヒートシンク部分が、固体と粉体とのうちの少なくとも一方からなることを特徴とする物品。 - 請求項14に記載の物品であり、
前記ヒートシンク部分が、前記凹部内に機械的シールを形成し且つ前記本体部分内に空洞を規定している固体プラグを備え、前記ヒートシンク部分が更に前記空洞内に粉体を含んでいることを特徴とする物品。 - 請求項1に記載の物品であり、
前記ヒートシンク部分が、
硬質粒子を含んでいる第一の分散相と、
バインダを含んでいる第一の連続相であって、前記硬質粒子が当該第一の連続相内に分散されている前記第一の連続相と、
前記ヒートシンク材料を含んでいる第二の連続相と、を含んでいることを特徴とする物品。 - ボーリングビット、切り刃インサート、切削工具、回転工具、回転工具インサート、ドリル、ナイフ及びスリッタから選択された物品であり、
チタン、クロム、バナジウム、ジルコニウム、ハフニウム、タンタル、モリブデン、ニオビウム及びタングステンから選択された少なくとも1つの遷移金属の炭化物からなる硬質粒子と、コバルト、ニッケル及び鉄のうちの少なくとも1つを含んでいるバインダとを含んでいる切削部分であって、切削面を含んでいる切削部分と、
当該切削部分を支持している本体部分であって、凹部を備えている内側領域を含んでいる前記本体部分と、
当該本体部分と接触しており且つ銅、アルミニウム、銀、金、シリコンカーバイド、窒化アルミニウム、窒化硼素、アルミニウムシリコンカーバイド、酸化ベリリウム、シリコン−シリコンカーバイド、銅タングステン合金、銅モリブデンカーバイド、炭素、ダイヤモンド及びグラファイトのうちの少なくとも1つを含んでいる物質を含んでおり、前記焼結炭化物より高い熱伝導率を有しているヒートシンク部分であって、前記切削部分と熱的に連通しており且つ当該切削部分から熱を伝導させて逃がす前記ヒートシンク部分と、を含んでおり、
該ヒートシンク部分の少なくとも一部分が前記凹部内に配置されている、物品。 - 物品を形成する方法であり、
チタン、クロム、バナジウム、ジルコニウム、ハフニウム、タンタル、モリブデン、ニオビウム及びタングステンから選択された少なくとも1つの遷移金属の炭化物の硬質粒子とバインダとを含んでいる焼結炭化物を含んでいる加工部分を提供するステップと、
該加工部分を取り巻いており且つ凹部を備えている内側領域を含んでいる本体部分を提供するステップと、
前記加工部分と熱的に連通しており且つ前記焼結炭化物よりも高い熱伝導率を有しているヒートシンク材料を含んでいるヒートシンク部分を提供するステップと、を含み、
該ヒートシンク部分を提供するステップが、前記ヒートシンクの少なくとも一部分を前記凹部内に配置させるステップを含んでいる、方法。 - 請求項18に記載の方法であり、
前記ヒートシンク部分が接触している本体部分を提供するステップを更に含んでいることを特徴とする方法。 - 請求項19に記載の方法であり、
前記加工部分が切削部分であり、前記物品が、ボーリングビット、切り刃インサート、切削工具、回転工具、回転工具インサート、ドリル、ナイフ及びスリッタから選択されたものであることを特徴とする方法。 - 請求項19に記載の方法であり、
加工部分を提供すること及び本体部分を提供することのうちの少なくとも一方が、焼結炭化物を含む焼結された本体を提供することを含んでいることを特徴とする方法。 - 請求項19に記載の方法であり、
前記ヒートシンク部分を、圧入、熱嵌め、締結部材による取り付け、半田付け、接着剤による取り付け、クランピングのうちの少なくとも1つによって、機械的に物品に取り付けることを更に含んでいることを特徴とする方法。 - 請求項21に記載の方法であり、
前記焼結された本体が凹部を備えており、
ヒートシンク部分を提供するステップが、当該ヒートシンク材料を前記凹部内に配置することを含んでいることを特徴とする方法。 - 請求項19に記載の方法であり、
前記ヒートシンク材料が、固体、溶融材料、粉体及びこれらの2以上の組み合わせから選択されることを特徴とする方法。 - 請求項24に記載の方法であり、
前記ヒートシンク材料が固体からなり、
前記ヒートシンク部分を提供するステップが、固体を前記凹部内に熱嵌めすること及び圧入することのうちの少なくとも一方を含んでいることを特徴とする方法。 - 請求項25に記載の方法であり、
ヒートシンク部分を提供するステップが、前記粉体を前記凹部内に配置し且つ固定プラグを前記凹部内に配置して前記粉体を前記凹部内に機械的に取り付けるステップを含んでいることを特徴とする方法。 - 請求項24に記載の方法であり、
加工部分を提供し且つ本体部分を提供するステップが、型の空洞内に焼結炭化物粉末を部分的に充填するステップを含んでおり、
ヒートシンク部分を提供するステップが、ヒートシンク材料を空洞内に配置することを含み、前記ヒートシンク材料は、固体であり且つ焼結炭化物粉末の焼結温度よりも高い融点を有しており、
前記焼結炭化物粉末とヒートシンク材料とは、前記焼結炭化物粉末の焼結温度まで加熱され、当該焼結温度は、前記ヒートシンク材料の溶融温度よりも低いことを特徴とする方法。 - 請求項27に記載の方法であり、
前記ヒートシンク材料を前記空洞内に配置する前に、前記焼結炭化物粉末を空洞内で固めるステップを更に含んでいることを特徴とする方法。 - 請求項27に記載の方法であり、
前記ヒートシンク材料を前記空洞内に配置するステップに続いて且つ前記焼結炭化物粉末及びヒートシンク材料を焼結炭化物粉末の焼結温度まで加熱するステップの前に、前記焼結炭化物粉末及び前記ヒートシンク材料を固めるステップを更に含み、
前記焼結温度は、前記ヒートシンク材料の溶融温度よりも低いことを特徴とする方法。 - 請求項27に記載の方法であり、
前記空洞内に前記ヒートシンク材料を配置するステップの前に、前記焼結炭化物粉末を固めて第一の圧粉体を提供するステップと、
焼結温度まで加熱するステップの前に、前記圧粉体及び前記ヒートシンク材料を固めて第二の圧粉体を提供するステップ、を更に含んでいることを特徴とする方法。 - 請求項19に記載の方法であり、
前記ヒートシンク材料が、銅、アルミニウム、銀、金、シリコンカーバイド、窒化アルミニウム、窒化硼素、アルミニウムシリコンカーバイド、酸化ベリリウム、シリコン−シリコンカーバイド、銅タングステン合金、銅モリブデンカーバイド、炭素、ダイヤモンド、グラファイト及びこれらの2以上の組み合わせから選択された材料を含んでいることを特徴とする方法。 - 請求項19に記載の方法であり、
前記バインダが、コバルト、ニッケル及び鉄のうちの少なくとも1つを含んでいることを特徴とする方法。 - 請求項19に記載の方法であり、
前記焼結炭化物が混成の焼結炭化物を含んでいることを特徴とする方法。 - 請求項19に記載の方法であり、
前記焼結炭化物が0.3〜10μmの平均粒径を有するタングステンカーバイド粒子を含んでいることを特徴とする方法。 - 請求項19に記載の方法であり、
前記ヒートシンク材料が150W/mKより高い熱伝導率を有していることを特徴とする方法。 - 請求項19に記載の方法であり、
型の空洞内に第一の焼結炭化物粉末を部分的に充填するステップと、
前記空洞の残りの部分に少なくとも部分的に、第二の焼結炭化物粉末を充填するステップであって、当該第二の焼結炭化物粉末は、当該第二の焼結炭化物粉末の焼結温度よりも低い溶融温度を有する不安定な材料を含んでいるステップと、
前記第一の焼結炭化物及び第二の焼結炭化物を固めて圧粉体を形成するステップと、
当該圧粉体を焼結させて前記不安定な材料を除去し且つ第一の焼結炭化物の領域と連続気孔を含んでいる第二の焼結炭化物の領域とを含んでいる焼結された物品を形成するステップと、
前記第二の焼結炭化物の連続気孔内に、前記第一の焼結炭化物より高い熱伝導率を有しているヒートシンク材料を配置することと、を含んでいることを特徴とする方法。 - 請求項36に記載の方法であり、
前記ヒートシンク材料が、銅、アルミニウム、銀及び金のうちの少なくとも1つを含んでいることを特徴とする方法。 - 加工部分と、該加工部分を支持している本体部分であって凹部を備えている内側領域を含んでいる前記本体部分と、を含んでいる物品を形成する方法であり、
前記加工部分を含んでいる焼結された本体であって、チタン、クロム、バナジウム、ジルコニウム、ハフニウム、タンタル、モリブデン、ニオビウム及びタングステンから選択された少なくとも1つの遷移金属の炭化物の硬質粒子を含んでいる焼結炭化物と、コバルト、ニッケル及び鉄のうちの少なくとも1つを含んでいるバインダとを含んでいる焼結された本体を準備するステップと、
前記焼結された本体に、ヒートシンク材料であって、銅、アルミニウム、銀、金、シリコンカーバイド、窒化アルミニウム、窒化硼素、アルミニウムシリコンカーバイド、酸化ベリリウム、シリコン−シリコンカーバイド、銅タングステン合金、銅モリブデンカーバイド、炭素、ダイヤモンド及びグラファイトのうちの少なくとも1つを含み、前記焼結された本体と接触しており、前記焼結炭化物より高い熱伝導率を有し、前記加工部分と熱的に連通していて当該加工部分から熱を伝導させる前記ヒートシンク材料を添加するステップと、を含み、
前記ヒートシンク部分の少なくとも一部分が前記凹部内に配置される、ことを特徴とする方法。 - 請求項38に記載の方法であり、
前記加工部分が切削面を含んでいる切削部分であり、前記物品が、ボーリングビット、切り刃インサート、切削工具、回転工具、回転工具インサート、ドリル、ナイフ及びスリッタから選択されるものであることを特徴とする方法。
