背凭れ部材と、
前記背凭れ部材の下方部位を固定して支持する下部支持体と、
前記下部支持体とは独立に傾倒可能であり、傾倒時に前記背凭れ部材の上方部位の相対的なスライドを許容するスライド機構を介してこれを支持する上部支持体と、
前記スライド機構に付帯し、前記上部支持体を所定角度以上傾倒させたときに前記背凭れ部材の上方部位の上部支持体に対するそれ以上のスライドを抑止するストッパと
を具備すると共に、
前記背凭れ部材の上方部位と前記上部支持体とのうち一方に前後に離間した壁に挟まれ上下に拡張した空洞部を設け、他方に前記空洞部に挿入され空洞部内を摺動する挿入端を有した挿入部を設けて前記スライド機構を構成しており、
前記上部支持体を所定角度以上傾倒させたときに前記挿入部の一部が前記空洞部を囲う壁の一部に当接して前記ストッパとなり、
前記空洞部を前記背凭れ部材に設ける場合において、背凭れ部材よりも固く変形しにくい摺接部材を背凭れ部材に取り付け、この摺接部材により空洞部の前壁を形成していることを特徴とする椅子。
